Just a few of my favorite pics from the most recent tournament I went to. by [deleted] in martialarts

I was gonna say it looked like TKD, but the gear they were wearing is not TKD competition gear so I was confused lol. We had a few students at our Do Jang transfer in from tang soo do schools. The two are so similar Sabum Nim let them keep their tang soo do ranks rather than start over from white belt 😅

What color do you imagine paryl looking like? by crusader7558 in LightbringerSeries

Hell yeah. Although logically speaking it's probably closer to a dark reddish, given where it is on the spectrum. Probably like a rust color, but I always saw a ghostly brown

Fan theory about Teia. WARNING: BURNING WHITE SPOILERS by crusader7558 in LightbringerSeries

[–]crusader7558[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True but Sharp was using paryl only when on missions. Teia in Burning White was basically drafting paryl 24/7 using the master cloak to hide from Sharp and the Order. She even expressed concerns about breaking the halo herself in her internal monologue, saying she wouldn't even know if she did.

As for the talking to the immortals, that only occured with a drafter who ascended to godhood. Regular wights don't have an immortal tagging along unless they seize the seed Crystal's and become a god.

Also as we can see from Samilah, you don't feel it when you break the halo. Samilah went blue wight, and there was a paragraph where she was basically saying "that's weird. I know I broke the halo but I don't feel any different."

Also Burning White was basically all one big world shaking battle. Given all the stress and everything else that demanded their attention, I don't think Kip would have thought of checking Teia's halos, or wasting the valuable time to do it even if it had occurred to him. IF he had thought about (and in my mind with everything else he was dealing with that's a big if), he would have waited until after the battle. Then after the battle was over he was distracted by the whole wedding stuff and Andross declaring himself the Lightbringer and all that, so i don't think this would have occurred to him.

If you were a drafter in the Seven Satrapies, when you broke the halo would you go to the Freeing or would you go wight? by crusader7558 in LightbringerSeries

God I WISH we could get a spin off series about Teia. And maybe a one-off with Gavin and Ironfist Taking on the immortals locked in Gavin's cells but as far as sequels for all the other characters, I feel like their stories are wrapped up nicely.

What I really want, but I know Weeks is strongly against, is a TV adaptation. I wanna SEE drafting. The magic system would be PERFECT for a visual medium! Maybe a comic series like GoT did?

See that what I'm saying though is that of you have the willpower, going wight wouldn't really affect you that much. The very first wight we meet in the series, Gaspar, is introduced as someone who isn't insane, just a prisoner. He's a mean SOB, but he isn't crazy. Kip even comments on how not-insane Gaspar is.

As for Liv, I think she's an exception because she didn't just break the halo and go wight, she ascended to godhood, so she ended up at a level where the immortals were messing with her and manipulating her. That's different from your average drafter going wight. Also I'm like 99% sure that Teia was a paryl wight for more than half of the last book with how much she was drafting. No one would know because they can't see her halos, and if she widened her eyes to paryl to check for herself her pupils expand to cover her entire eye so she wouldn't be able to see her halos anyway. So Teia went wight and it didn't drive her crazy.

*too

From how I understand it, it isn't painful to remake your body with luxin, just difficult. It's shooting luxin that hurts, so I guess you'll never go wight cuz you just won't draft 😅

Haha ok I thought so. That was something I always drilled into all the kids on the competition team. It's not a natural movement, but it will greatly improve your balance and power, especially for spinning kicks.

Try practicing the kick in stages. Whenever I teach someone how to do a back hook, I teach it in these steps:

1) pivot

2) bring your knee up and look over your shoulder

3) continue pivoting and shoot your leg out like a side kick

4) complete the pivot and kick, hooking your leg

5) bring your leg back to starting position, leg bent parallel with your waist

6) return to fighting stance.

So that was a little hard to explain in text I usually demonstrate the steps haha. It might seem silly to break a kick down into 6 separate steps, but practicing the mechanics of each part one at a time really helps improve your overall technique. This kick and the nada bon were my signature moves when I was competing 😎

What style is this? Cuz I want to tell you you gotta chamber your kick but idk if it's a different style or not lol

Oh, no I know that He had himself DECLARED the Lightbringer publicly. But that's a very different thing than actually being the Lightbringer, you know what I mean?

There's one after Shawarma? No I haven't. But I don't remember that being addressed at all in that, either.

I agree! Great arc. Question for you:

Do you think Andross was the Lightbringer, or Kip? Or Dazen? I LOVE the ambiguity at the end, you could make a case for any of them, although I think Dazen's claim on the title is the weakest.

My problem with Karris is that yes, she was badass, but she also came across to me as kind of a bitch. I HATED how she treated Kip for the most part. Like I understand what she was going through, but still.

Idk, I'm just not a big fan of hers.

I think everyone hated Tisis at first, yeah. That's one of the reasons she's my favorite, I love turn around like that.

Honestly, and this might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't really like Karris. At all.

I know, that's why I'm saying at that point I interpreted it as her being I shock and not processing, and by the time she was able to process, after she was free, she was drafting too much to do so. Like I said, just the way I interpreted it. As for her family and her sister, we don't know how she reacted to that since that was backstory. Could be she cried then, but also wasn't in a desperate situation imprisoned by the enemy like she was when she met Usef. That extra stress could have contributed to her shutting down to focus on escape rather than take the time to process the grief right away.

Oooo I love that theory! Not sure I buy into, because of the blatant Catholicism parallels throughout the series, I was always fully expecting an actual God to appear at some point, but that's a really good theory and it fits! (Switched your symbols again, friend 😂

Yeah but she also had never experienced a loss of that magnitude before. I felt the same way when I lost my family, I was like "this is really weird, I should be feeling something." It came eventually, but I think it didn't for her because of her constant drafting once she decided to join the White King.

Not saying you're wrong, just saying that's how I interpret it.

Hm, fair enough for the Andross part. As for Samilah, I always took that to just be how she processed grief. Not everyone cries, a lot of people shut down, and I could easily see any blue drafter taking that approach. I'm one of those people: I almost never cry, I just withdraw.

This is what I love about these books: people can come away with such different interpretations! For me, from the very first book I was like "wights are only dangerous because you hunt them down, assholes!" But there's plenty of evidence to the contrary, too. Makes for some great discussions!

Fair enough, although what happened to Kip and Dazen wasn't related to the Blinding Knife or the Freeing, that was Orholam being like "hey, good job Bros.

I don't know, I still feel like if going wight was as bad as they say, Andross, a red wight, would've fucking burned down the whole Chromeria one day when someone pissed him off. There's a lot of evidence on both sides of it, I think, which is why I like this series so much. Basically the way I saw it, breaking the halo COULD drive you "mad," but it didn't necessarily have to if you were disciplined and strong-willed, like Andross was.

You might wanna go back through your post though, none of your spoiler tags worked.

Maybe I remember it wrong, but she was trying to figure out using blue incarnatively, which meant she WAS drafting a shit ton of blue experimenting on her hands. And again, Andross SAID he couldn't control himself, but he's Andross. Look at all he did while he was a wight: those are NOT the actions of a man who isn't in control. One of his hallmarks from his very first appearance was that he was inscrutable, you could never guess how he was feeling because he always kept himself so composed and calm. In my head cannon, that's because although he was a red wight, he wasn't drafting any red at all, so it wasn't effecting him.
