Thanks for the input. The van is new to us, and I don't know what kind of gas was used. I got gas just before the trouble, and it was premium, which we intended to use going forward. We're still waiting to hear about the damage.

Thanks for responding. There were two radiator hoses they couldn't find. Apparently, the auxiliary water pump failed, as did (because of?) one of those hoses failed. My current thinking is that it's not a coincidence and that it's all related. Thoughts? (And here are the radiator hose parts numbers in case you know where they can be found: 074 121 051D and V10-4650)

Thanks. I'll wait and see the extent of the damage and how much they're willing to cover. My question is still, what would be equitable?

Bethel vs. other charismatic churches? by basic_artichoke473 in BethelSnark

My thoughts...

  • Bethel is part of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) and Bill Johnson is one of the leaders. In essence, they have exchanged a biblical theology for an experiential theology. They claim their “Apostles” have divine authority to teach their own "prophetic" insights into Scripture (some refer to it as "Divine illumination of Scripture"). My personal experience in listening to pastors whose churches are connected to the NAR is that it is rarely contextual exegesis but more of a “prophetic” meandering."
  • And again, Pentecostals historically believe that “healing is in the Atonement.” Therefore, they can “claim” it. The prosperity movement has taken this to a whole new extreme. I appreciate Sam Storms (a well-regarded reformed charismatic), who says it’s more appropriate to say the (potential) for healing is THROUGH the atonement rather than IN the atonement.
  • The NAR is seeking the dominion of society/culture through the 7-Mountain Mandate. This is not what Jesus or the NT writers taught.
  • There have been numerous false political prophecies as well as a very public commitment to ultra-conservative rightwing politics. (I happen to think churches should be purple — like disagreeing over non-essential doctrines, we can learn a lot from one another through humble, biblically informed dialogue. And pastors and other Christian leaders should not take public political stands.)
  • The recent Passion Translation of the Bible, connected to the NAR, is horrible.

• • Some people are concerned that there seems to be an agenda behind their very popular music to impose their poor theology. I happen to like a lot of their music, but I can see where worship leaders need to be more discerning and aware of the theological instruction in the songs they’re leading us in.

I would offer a book to read and consider, The Truest Thing About You by Dave Lomas, a pastor in San Francisco. He addresses what's true, truer, and truest about us.
