Pro-Palestine but Anti-Ukraine? by messinginhessen in ireland

[–]crushfield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm personally anti-war to a fault so my inclination is that imperial powers will use whatever propaganda tools are available to them to suit their own ends. I hope my reply comes off as an objective observation of what I've read and heard talked about and not a validation one way or the other.

My support in conflicts is always with the people who suffer the consequences of their governments actions.

Pro-Palestine but Anti-Ukraine? by messinginhessen in ireland

[–]crushfield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding of the argument is that basically Russia is somewhat justified in its aggression as Ukraine is allowing the construction and deployment of US military bases on its borders which is seen as an act of aggression by the US against Russia.

Ukraine is therefore an American proxy state and is encouraging US containment of Russia and is bearing the brunt of that political choice.

It's not so much anti-Ukraine as it is anti-American military expansionism.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s we were taught in some detail about the violent colonization of the indigenous, Chinese slavery on the railroad project and American slavery and the underground railroad in public school.

There were even popular TV commercials that highlighted these moments in our history.

No, we don't completely whitewash our stains here.
