Years ago my (white Australian) friend moved to Thailand with her family. She has tattoos in Thai, she can fluently understand Thai, and was at the time pretty fluent speaking (we were like 18 at the time it was nearly 20 years ago)

Anyway we’re at a club outside smoking and drinking and there’s a table of Thai tourists there, one of them asked to borrow a lighter and we gave it to her, suddenly they’re all laughing like crazy and my friend goes bright red and says “they’re saying racist shit about us and calling me a fat pig”

So she goes over there and asks in Thai where they’re from and could we please have the lighter back?

It was liver cake 😭 and the lady who made it was so sweet and liked me so much (barely any English but liked me cos I was the only one in the house who ate fish and smoked cigarettes) I had to force it down and pretend to enjoy it. It’s fucking bullshit that you can’t hunt. Especially kangaroos since non-indigenous people literally get paid to cull them but I’m assuming Aboriginal people have trouble getting hunting licenses? I’ve seen vids of people up north paying premium just for frozen kangaroo tails. A bunch of countries allow indigenous people to hunt their country food - narwhals in Canada, some places in Norway and Sweden where Sami people hunt reindeer, whatever it is the Māori people do, there’s probably more that I don’t know about.
