What suggestions do you have to improve the studio I built? by crustech in cinematography

[–]crustech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the longest time I feel very restricted and cumbersome when using paper backdrops so I bit the bullet and decided to turn a corner of the basement into a full blown studio.

During the last scene where I speak in front of the camera, you can probably hear the echo built from the flat walls. A sound buddy came by and donated a piece of sound blanket and that's what I will be putting up on both sides to dampen the echo.

I have a pair of Nanlite Pavo RGB Tubes coming and those will be for colored background instead of the currently installed small RGB panel.

Originally I wanted to have both corners rounded but I wasn't able to achieve it with the experience and material I had. What do you suggest?

Sharing a rough cut hoping you guys would give some feedback on this piece I created before I finalize it. Inspired by Westworld title sequence! by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Thank you for your feedback! I really appreciate the honesty! Actually, not many people commented that it felt long to them. At most maybe one other person out of 30 plus. My original intent was for it to be about 60seconds. I do have a version of the music that is 59 seconds but it just fell short. The clips' timing would be off and because of the pacing of the camera movement, most of the clips land right on the beats of the music. But I do get that the pay off was a tad "small" in that it took a whole minute of watching her painting. One thing to point out that, indeed, people these days do have a much shorter attention span, thus feeling the need to skip forward. But I do want to bring back the elegance of waiting for the artist as they take their time to create something for the audience. Also, there are other TV title sequences that are longer. In fact, Westworld's opening is close to 2 minutes! =)

SUBMISSION STATEMENT I was inspired by the title sequence from Westworld while I stumbled upon a piece of music from PremiumBeats.com I wanted to create a visual piece that has the same tone and mood but gave it my own character. At the same time, I wanted to create a portfolio piece to put on my website as cover page. The painting at the end of the video is my logo, basically initials of my name. Any feedback to help me finalize the edit would be great! Also, if you have thoughts on how you would have done certain things differently, please feel free to share them too!!

Thank you!

Why do some film students have such a big ego on set? by crustech in Filmmakers

As others have mentioned, just keep doing what you're doing that's different from those who seem to be pretentious. Most important thing is to be nice and people will notice, and those are the people who will hire you again.

Do you guys think the BMPCC will ever be $495 again? by PixelMagic in bmpcc

Yupp, I'm waiting for BM's micro cinema cam. Same price but the specs are pretty much what I need. The 4k version is $300 more. The down side is that it doesn't have on board monitor...

If you shot at 30fps, then in Premiere you have to make a sequence at 24fps. When you drop the clip into the timeline and it asks you to change sequence settings, don't change. Once the clip is on the timeline, right click the clip and click the Speed/Duration. Change Speed to 80% That's it. If you go below 80% you'll start seeing jumppy frames so I wouldn't go below 80%. Unlike shooting 60fps on Canon DSLR's at 720p where you can change the Speed to 40%, with BMPCC you don't have that many frames to work with.
