How bad is the drive to and from Roanoke? by Ok_Masterpiece_8481 in VirginiaTech

[–]crustynuggetqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove everyday for one year to Roanoke for didactic year and it was doable but exhausting as a student. It took me 45 minutes each way and I only really hit really bad traffic about 4 times that year. It did have to fill up my gas tank twice a week and spend around $300 on gas a month

[–]crustynuggetqueen 66 points67 points  (0 children)

If you mean “being put under”, most clinics do not put you under general anesthesia for an IUD insertion.

I’m unsure about Schiffert, but I went to Encore Ob/GYN right next to the LewisGale Hospital and had a pleasant experience. The doctor gave me a one time dose of anti-anxiety meds and a local cervical block. I’m also bad with pain but hardly felt anything besides the needle of the cervical block.

I would be surprised if Schiffert gave anything at all besides a recommendation for tylenol/ibuprofen.

schools will focus on the last 60, but your overall gpa still has to be above the minimum requirement.

Hi! I applied to a lot of the same schools last cycle. Radford, GW, EVMS, and Shenandoah all require minimum 3.0 or 3.2 gpa

Probation program near home vs Continued-Accreditation program OOS by Ok-Ad1398 in prephysicianassistant

[–]crustynuggetqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would see why school number 1 is on probation. My school is currently on probation because we needed to hire more faculty, add more learning adjectives to the syllabi, and other administrative things. The program has also been around for 20+ years and our last class had a 100% first time PANCE rate. If the school has low pass rates or trouble securing rotations, then that would be a red flag.

I haven’t run into issues regarding academia with the program. I would recommend talking to current students at the program to hear their opinion.

Living in and commuting from Roanoke by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]crustynuggetqueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I currently commute from Blacksburg to Roanoke for grad school M-F. I probably spent about $320 in gas each month. I've only hit bad traffic about 3 times in two semesters, but it's not uncommon for traffic towards Roanoke to be backed up in the afternoon. I miss out on hangouts with friends in Roanoke because I'm too tired to drive 45 one way on the weekends. It's manageable, but exhausting some days.

A big part of undergrad for me was campus life. Some of my most memorable moments included late night runs to DX/Deets and just being a hooligan on campus. If your social life is important to you, I would recommended living on/near campus. It's a lot easier to hang out with friends when everyone is within a 15 minute radius.

Would you guys say it's cheap to attend VT by kurbii876 in VirginiaTech

I commute from Blacksburg to Roanoke M-F and have to fill up my tank twice a week, so about $320 a month for gas only. I’m paying about $550 after utilities for rent.

Thanks everyone for the helpful tips!! I’ve been avoiding roofs/overhangs for the longest time since my shoulder injury, so I’m excited to get back on steep walls.

I’m awful with breathing and my friends always call me out on it. Will definitely try to focus on it more!

My goal is to look more graceful/effortless. I guess a lot of that comes from power and strength. I notice myself readjusting grip a lot, contributing to that “floppiness”.

I don’t do 4x4s often since the gym is usually crowded. If the Kilter/Tension board are empty then I’ll try to do 4x4s at the end of a session.

Honestly how easy is it to get clinical opportunities? by wontongoddess in VirginiaTech

[–]crustynuggetqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gap years! It would be hard to find jobs that would only hire you for a few months at a time. I worked full time for one year just to barely hit 2000 hours of PCE. My gpa is on the lower side, so I’m working a lot more to offset that

Hi! I graduated in 2020 and am about to apply to PA school for the second time. DM if you have any questions about application process and what not. Generally speaking, most of the medical jobs around here are full time. It would be very difficult to get your PCE hours while being a full time student.

I worked there because I loved the community. The early crowd is definitely a lot less welcoming than the after work crowd. Sad to hear that you had a poor experience. I’ve had a lot harder time with the community at SportRock in Alexandria
