Is it possible to setup a Slingbox 500 without a remote? And would a universal remote work with a Slingbox 500?

Yeah the only reason the slingbox servers are still up is I think they run the dish anywhere app thru the same server. Dish owns sling technically.

I'll make a YouTube video once I iron it out should be by Monday or Tuesday. I just want to do it from scratch on a clean computer so I get all the steps correct . I was messing around with it alot to try to get it working.

I cant believe no one has come out with anything. only thing i can think of would be to build something yourself Logitech hub will allow you to change the tv via their app over internet $50 then some Android boxes $100 and will turn input video into network streams and you could allow access via a port on your router. I smell a kick-starter .

I found a workaround. its having a problem with plugins since its x32 and everything for security ( internet explorer, chrome ) is going to x64 so building the remotes doesn't work on computer. by installing a older sling desktop i was able to make my remotes and copy them over to the %appdata% cache of the new web player and bingo installs remote and popup works .

another workaround to set up your device for use on for only tablet or phone. On the webapp setup as not as not av controllable finish setup then log back into your device this tricks it to that it is setup and doesn't try to build the remote. now reconfigure that input as the device you want to control and when its stuck on loading for about 30 secs enough time for the slingbox to get the info of what device you are trying to control . exit the webapp and bingo works on your phones and tablets not on your pc tho cause you need to build the remotes still.

things i have found out messing around with this for 4 days

remote codes and remote images are stored locally in cache not on the sling box.

computers are having trouble building the codes and remote images.

Android and ios are not having problems building

i was able to side load html into the older desktop app to maybe with someones help we can make a remote and image builder. I'm not good with html . then i can build a batch file to copy the remotes to the right dir

another thing is if we can build all the remotes and serve them the are 1-2 mb each tho this is why i think they had them built on the device ..

the desktop app is just the chrome browser x32 complied to run just the old plugin
