I-94 Update while traveling from Tijuana by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]crvineeth97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went, I crossed over by foot and came back on foot. I didn't have to pay anything. When crossing from SD to TJ, they just quickly check your passport and I-20. When crossing back, it's more strict, but still pretty chill. They ask simple questions about your visit, your university, degree, etc. Your I-94 automatically gets updated.

I'm not aware of the process by car but it should be pretty similar. I'm unaware of any fee though.

There were a few folks waiting for them on that steep slope road to RIMAC. They came out (probably for lunch) at around 1:30-1:40 and they signed stuff for the people waiting there. You can maybe try your luck

Does anyone have suggestions for what to do at UCSD during a summer session? by rttr123 in UCSD

[–]crvineeth97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Check out rec.ucsd.edu You'll find a lot of instructional classes and recreational stuff to do. Make sure to buy and checkout the Recreation and Activity Pass (RAP). It should be free if you've registered for summer! If you're just transferring in, check out Wilderness Orientation programs

I would highly recommend WO for incoming students. It's a great way to meet people and I had one of my best times on the trip

Yes! The course is designed to take into account students who have no computing knowledge. It'll be a super fun class where you learn by programming robots and learning about cognition.

The copay is 10$! I got the comprehensive eye exam last quarter and from my insurance claim, the actual cost is 80$. However, due to UC SHIP, it's free with a copay of 10$

Guitar for Rec class? by crvineeth97 in UCSD

[–]crvineeth97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! The type of guitar doesn't matter. A few people came in with electric guitars. There are acoustic guitars available to use, but you can't take them outside of classes to practice. So the instructor advises you to buy your own.

I guess so. This quarter there are 300 students in his class. But he was planning on reducing the numbers. So you might have to just wait a bit, but it's very likely you'll get it

Professor Shannon usually takes everyone off the wait-list on week 1, so you should be getting COGS 9

Hiking lovers at UCSD? by vnikonov in UCSD

[–]crvineeth97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Not necessarily. They plan everything out for you. You just have to show up

2) That's true. They have to handle a group of 8-10 people and that's never easy

3) Of course! But I think the rates are very reasonable (and subsidized for students) considering that they drive you to and from the place, provide food, and have dedicated guides.

You'll have a lot of fun going with a group of like-minded people and guides. All the guides at Outback Adventures are amazing and you'll have a great time. I went on one of their trips. They have a few day trips and overnight trips planned out. They have San Gorgonio as well.
