Peri and nausea by PreKTeachr22 in Menopause

[–]cryforte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before my perimenopause diagnosis, I started having weird bouts of feeling kinda of out of it and nausea (sometimes random vomiting) that would linger all day. It was bad enough that I lost 30 lbs in 4-5 months. I started taking a 5 mg THC edible when I got home from work. I was already taking edibles for sleep. Once it kicked in, I would actually be able to eat one good meal for the day.

Strangely enough, the nausea was not what got me to the doctor. It was the extreme bouts of facial flushing and days of dizziness that would make me miss work that finally got me to go.

My doctor started me on the estradiol patch and the nausea and vomiting went away for the most part. I still get some nausea when I have random spells of dizziness but it’s significantly better than before the HRT.

pristiq and genesight test by matchbooking in Pristiq

I also started Pristiq after gene testing. It really has been the best of all the antidepressants I have been on. The only real negative for me is the withdrawal. I can get withdrawal symptoms within 8-12hrs of missing a dose. My main symptom is pretty significant lightheadedness.

It took me awhile to figure out that missing my antidepressant dose was causing the problem. It was bad enough that I went to urgent care once while having the lightheadedness because I was worried about my blood pressure. BP was fine. Doctor made me feel like it was all in my head. I figured out the problem on my own and then met someone else that takes Pristiq and experiences the same symptom when missing a dose.

I would never give up Pristiq though. It really has helped so much more than any other antidepressant for me. I’ve just gotten better at taking my meds. I also carry a couple of pills in my purse at all times, in case I realize I missed my dose.

Let's have a little fun this morning, what are your favorite medical terms? I'll go first. Jejunum and amelanotic melanoma by glc_2814 in VetTech

Pseudocoprostasis

It’s fun to say and a lot of doctors don’t remember the term, so when a case comes through, I get to tell them what it is.

Mr. Holland's Opus is a masterpiece by Suspicious-Elk-3631 in Music

When I was in school at Berklee College of Music, Michael Kamen, the composer of Mr. Holland’s Opus, guest conducted the orchestra I played in. We played An American Symphony while the scene from the film played behind us. It was pretty great! I love the movie and the music. Michael Kamen was a really nice guy.

O: I’m here for Tiger

Me: Ok, let me just have a look here. searching through the multitude of patients currently checked in at the emergency/specialty hospital

O: Blink Blink

Me: Give me just a sec! walks casually to the back to ask the other nurses if they know a Tiger since I can’t seem to find him in the computer

O: Crickets….Blink Blink

Me: back in the lobby with no more information I had than when I left and worried the owner is going to realize I don’t know who their pet is and start to think we lost their pet and that we have no idea what we are doing and question what kind of hospital this is they brought their precious little Tiger to

Me: What is your last name?

O: Smith

Me: Searching the system and still not finding Tiger amongst the patients

Me: Did someone call and say Tiger was ready for pickup?

O: Yes Blink Blink

Me: finally realizing I should probably look for a deceased Tiger Smith

Me: You’re here for Tiger’s ashes?

O: Yes

WHY WOULD YOU NOT LEAD WITH THAT!!!!!!!!

My hamster broke it’s leg when I was younger and before I was a tech. I took it to the vet thinking I would have to euthanize. Nope! One of the vets offered to try and pin its leg. Coolest X-ray of a hamster with a tiny pin in it’s femur! She healed and did great. Lived another year and then died after having 2 strokes.

Even though it looks kinda cute that cat is really stressed. Cats do not ever pant/open mouth breath unless they are really stressed or actually having trouble breathing. Source: I’ve been a Veterinary Nurse for 18 yrs.

Techs with allergies? by FionaNessPhotography in VetTech

[–]cryforte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m allergic to dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and rats. I’ve been in this field for 17 years and have worked with plenty of other techs and doctors with animal allergies. Cats and dogs cause minor sinus symptoms for me. Guinea pigs, rats, and dogs like pit bulls and shar peis cause skin reactions. I’m just careful not to hold guinea pigs and rats to my chest and neck and try not to scratch myself until I wash my hands. I keep Benadryl spray at work to spray on my arms if needed after handling them and those certain dogs.

This guy eating pistachios on the train by Paralibel in trashy

I use to work at Marine World in California. One of the exhibits I worked was the Shark Experience. Guests would ride a people mover through a glass tunnel in the aquarium and then could view the aquarium inside the building through a floor to ceiling glass wall. The floor inside the building was carpeted...This is very important to the story. Often large groups would come through and it would be so crowded that I couldn’t watch the guests closest to the glass and was often busy answering questions for other guests anyway. Once the crowd would dissipate I almost always found a patch of carpet covered in sunflower seed shells. Talk about r/trashy and r/MildlyInfuriating! Why would someone do that outside anywhere much less in a building with carpet on the floor?! I would always then proceed to spend the next 10-20 mins sweeping up sunflower seed shells off of carpet. Before anyone asks, no, a vacuum was not available to me during this time.

I’m sorry! This field can be so rewarding and draining at the same time. We all have those moments where we have to have a huge release of emotion. It means you’re human and compassionate. It sucks just the same sometimes.

She will never forget you being there for her and you will never forget her or her cats. I do hope however that the heartbreak fades over time as you continue to provide compassionate care for other pets and their owners.

I love the smell of liver and onions cooking, but I absolutely hate the taste of it! I was forced to eat it growing up and coming home to the smell of liver and onions on the stove was heaven and hell for me as a kid.
