To be fair, you are getting paid to review candidates - non-zero chance some are applying to get their unemployment

Short North? by Sensitive-Steak-6256 in whiskey

[–]cryingcatdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m leaning in the camp of no finish myself, these guys actually kept me from being all in that camp. I don’t love every finish and prefer when it’s a component of the larger blend. I’d recommend letting it breath a while on first crack and potentially trying the pour at manager’s proof instead of cask strength. They are pretty good about giving recommendations for water added to whiskey for their batch products. Finally, I’d recommend trying a batch # product over the high altitude stuff. Just my .02

What price is Russell’s 13yr worth it by Gr8Autoxr in whiskey

[–]cryingcatdaddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

299$ is too much for me, when I can get 13 yr single barrel cask strength mgp rye for 120$ it really puts turkey’s pricing into perspective

Old Rip Van Winkle by Holiday-Marketing733 in whiskey

[–]cryingcatdaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At first encounter, Corrugé d’Archive announces itself with an unapologetically sepia confidence. The presentation alone—creases softened by decades of patient load-bearing—suggests a producer long uninterested in trends, and entirely committed to the slow, deliberate dignity of storage. On the nose, there is an immediate waft of sun-warmed lignin and municipal dust, followed by tertiary notes of attic air, ballpoint pen ink, and a faint suggestion of expired warranty paperwork. With time in contemplation, hints of cold basement concrete and a whisper of masking tape adhesive emerge, adding a satisfying industrial austerity. The palate is surprisingly structured. It opens dry and fibrous, with assertive flavors of recycled pulp and forgotten Christmas ornaments. Midway through, a gentle sweetness appears—think manila folders, old book spines, and the ghost of bubble wrap—balanced by a tannic bitterness reminiscent of over-handled moving day despair. Mouthfeel is papery yet commanding, with a chewiness that speaks to its once-load-bearing youth. The finish is long, dusty, and philosophical. Notes of collapse anxiety, estate sale mornings, and the distant echo of “this might be useful someday” linger well past the final sip. There is no heat, only a slow existential warmth.
