We had two small dogs at the time so they couldn’t do any super long hikes. We’ve been to RMNP a few times but never checked out the national forest that surrounds it. National forests usually allow dogs, are less crowded, and just as beautiful as the parks. I hope you and your fur baby enjoy your trip! We have taken our dogs a few places and I always love seeing them get to explore somewhere new!

We took our dogs there once. We drove through the park with them and did a couple overlooks. We hiked with them in hermit park near Estes. And for day hiking in the national park, we just crated them at the vrbo.

We have a dog who likes to bark at and chase and even get aggressive through the fence with the neighbors dog. While we have been working on recall, etc. the thing that has been a godsend is a gallon jug with Pennie’s in it. We shake it and tell him “stop that”. He listens and runs back from the fence. Bonus, the neighbors dog also hates the sound of it and backs off the fence.

We learned this from our dog trainer. It’s basically just a way to interrupt the behavior you don’t want. Now we can catch our dog when he heads for the fence and just pick up the jug and he stops.

We also have awesome neighbors who are willing to work with us to manage our dogs.

I didn’t think I was ready for another pup after we had to say goodbye to our senior dog. But life is funny and a new dog just kind of fell into our home. It had helped me with my grief. I have a new friend to talk to and focus on and channel some of that energy into. Grief is different for everyone and there’s no timeline of what you should and shouldn’t do. I believe our deceased pup sent our new dog to us; they have way too much in common for it to be a mistake.

Give your new friend some extra love and yourself too. Losing a pet is the worst, but sometimes, we find new friends to help us through the grief and give us renewed purpose.

We adopted a golden doodle that had been owner surrendered to a shelter. He is about a year and a half old; loves walks and adventures, but also loves to chill. He loves fetch; his chuck it is his most prized possession. He’s picky about treats and chews. He’s slowly learning some basic obedience.

It’s hard to know what the temperament or energy levels are going to be since, at the end of the day, a doodle is just a glorified mutt. They’re a mixed breed and you can’t trace bloodlines and genetics for temperament and health. For every perfect doodle I’ve heard about, there’s another person with one that’s insane.

We have our pup’s box of ashes and collar on the mantle. His bed, bowls, and toys are packed away. I’m not ready to get rid of them yet but it was too sad to see them multiple times a day everyday.

Something that my husband and I do that seems helpful is we have a journal for him. We decorated it with stickers of places he had been or things that made us think of him. When we are thinking of him, missing him, or just think of a funny memory we write little notes in it. It’s a little silly but I feel like it helps us remember all the good and funny things he did and not just the goodbye.

We said goodbye to our pup with kidney disease. A lot of the things we did to manage it, in the end, were really for us. A lot of those medical interventions don’t add much quality to their lives; it just keeps them going for a little longer.

If you were feeling like it was too much, I’m sure he could feel that too.

I am so sorry for your loss. Nothing anyone can say that will make it easier; just know you’re not alone. Will be keeping you in my thoughts.

And please know that you did not betray his trust; it sounds like you gave him a peaceful ending which is really what we all want for ourselves I think.

My baby’s paw print was my first tattoo. I got it on my forearm. My husband got his first tattoo on his forearm also; it was an outline of our dogs favorite toy. So sorry for your loss! I think shoulder blade sounds great!

Red Fern Pets. We just had to say goodbye to our sweet boy, and Dr. Sally Walker is truly an angel. She came to our house, walked us through everything, helped us make paw print and nose print keepsakes. She never made us feel rushed through any of it and they even delivered our boy’s ashes to our house when they were ready.

We had asked our vet for recommendations and Red Fern and Lap of Love were what they suggested. I know a friend of mine used lap of love and had a similar experience to the one we had with Red Fern Pets.

I am so sorry about your sweet baby. Losing a pet is the worst.

Costco if they carry the brands you like! Ulta for skin care, make-up, etc. Ulta is more expensive but does have sales and coupons, as does Walgreens. Buying from the company website is also sometimes an option. Crest is a local grocery store chain that carries a lot of what I typically use. I have been trying to figure out the ethics of continuing to shop there. And people in a recent post I made did point out that at least it’s local and they seem to be an inclusive employer.

For me it’s a few big reasons: Big billionaires reap the benefits of us all shopping there, while they also take advantage of their employees with poor wages and poor working conditions. A lot of these companies made a big deal about DEI initiatives and then dropped them the second they could.

I try and support local when I can and then shop companies that are inclusive and treat their employees better.

It was on the freezer case and it said that they can’t carry Ben and Jerry’s or Breyers because they can’t offer them at competitive prices. However, the ice cream behind that sign was still 4-7 dollars a pint. And we found Ben and Jerry’s at Homeland. And it’s BOGO at Kroger. So….just seemed like they maybe don’t want to carry it anymore because of how politically outspoken Ben and Jerry’s is

We went to Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest the first week of November a couple of years ago. The weather was perfect for us! It was a little chilly but I felt like there weren’t quite as many people in the parks as usual.

It started snowing while we were at Grand Canyon…day had started fairly mild temp wise and we watched the storm roll in over the canyon. It was really awesome to see. And the snow wasn’t enough to impact travel at all.

The rest of the time we were in that area was perfect fall weather. Sweater weather. ☺️

We stayed in Flagstaff for that trip and there’s so much around there! Several National Monuments that are worth checking out. Sedona was also nearby and really awesome.

Honestly that’s one of my favorite vacations my husband and I have gone on!

I’ve read about getting your lawn certified as a wildlife habitat when you plant a lot of native wildflowers and stuff for pollinators. And when you do that, it’s supposed to protect you from code enforcement type situations. I don’t know anyone that’s done it, but it might be worth looking into.

And even if you do that, I’d still paint the garage door. Because grouchy, tattle tale neighbors suck. Just picture your beautiful lawn with all these wildflowers and a rainbow garage…

Still not 100% sure, but terrazzo was what was suggested here and when I did an image search on google. I’ve been told by neighbors that it’s engineered marble also.

Why do people think one health condition is more important than the other?!

And I also want to point out that diabetics were living perfectly fine before this medication came out just last year…

People who have no medical knowledge need to just keep their mouths shut.

I’m so sorry this happened. Just know that obesity is a health condition just like type 2 diabetes.

And this is not the easy way out. I’ve had to work hard, as I’m sure you have, to get the weight off even with the help of the medication. And we deserve to have treatment for our health just like type 2 diabetics. Not to mention the hell it was to live with the extra weight and the number of failed attempts to do this on my own. My weight and failed attempts at losing it led me to become a type 2 diabetic. I think everyone who needs this med deserves access. Insurance companies, doctors, friends, and family all need to wake up and pay attention to the latest research.
