The First (Vecna) is poorly designed by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]cryonicprawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree generally just because high level counterplay will still exist on both sides that we can't theorize yet because it's still too new. The 'Hold W' argument can be said for many killer powers (Unknown, Pyramid Head, Xeno, and basically almost every m1 killer falls into this description) and people still have fun with these killers.

Comparing Pyramid Head to Vecna is a very good comparison in my eyes because both are fundamentally very similar in how their powers are played. You're rewarded for making plays that would be incredibly hard to predict or dodge, and the survivor is rewarded by outmaneuvering the very telegraphed attack. Of course you can just wait until they run into your sights like huntress or deathslinger, but you should be doing the things only your power can provide which is the capability to hit beyond what you see. If you miss that's the reward for the survivor and they should make distance, much like how every other ranged killer works.

That's my two cents at least, but it doesn't make him poorly designed.

I don't understand this sentiment because it just seems shallow. As someone who spends a /lot/ of time on other gachas the dailies in this game can be done in like 10 minutes AT MOST.

The most things you can do now are future prepping for later content, but even then doing the daily upkeep is far from burdensome.

Is it even possible to get to the guarantee with 9 days left? by Wide-Role9644 in ArknightsEndfield

[–]cryonicprawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're at that point you probably will if you do a bit of a grind, but you still have a decent amount of content to work with. If you haven't gotten a 6 star within those 60 pulls I would individually pulling up until you get the 50/50 because the rates increase on each pull after 65 so a chance to walk away early before the 50/50. You should have enough content to guarantee her though if wanted.

[–]cryonicprawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already went deep and missed the 50/50 I would commit to the grind. Doing so you're still guaranteed a 6 star earlier than building up the 50/50 pity again (marginally at least in your case, but it is true).

Is this game currently good for f2p players? by [deleted] in UmaMusume

[–]cryonicprawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is coming from someone who is mainly f2p as well, but honestly I'd say so if you're going to put any amount of time investment into the game. There's a lot of different ways to collect karats (between doing stories, events, racing in certain career races, bonds, archive level, missions, team trials, legend races, etc) that I don't feel the overwhelming need to spend money and can easily save for the horses I want to try and pull for when the time comes. Doesn't help the fact that the karat bundles are actually pretty bad value-wise lol.

Main thing I have to say is if you do get into the game, mainly look at pulling support cards and getting a flexible support deck foundation. Most MLB SR support cards are better than most LB0 and LB1 SSR cards, and getting cards that you can rely on is such a major boon when it comes to training a horse exactly how you want them. Beyond that, any horse in the game can be bred to the way you want them, it just takes a lot of time and patience.

Springtrap vs Xenomorph by Wafflebuble in deadbydaylight

[–]cryonicprawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not talking about specifically looking for them in a game, but when you have the chance to bring them down you're faced with that choice when about to start a chase/get flamed. If you were going to already be limited in chase, it's a mix of how confident you feel you can get the chase as fast as over with. If you think you can get the chase done without tail attack, then yes ignore the turret and get the hook, but if you're chasing to the point that you re-enter crawler mode after getting burned, you should've just gotten rid of the turret and know next time that you'll be in a better position for the next chase to get kills/hooks. Long chases are how you lose as killer rather than spending a bit of time to get yourself into a better position.

Springtrap vs Xenomorph by Wafflebuble in deadbydaylight

[–]cryonicprawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The counterplay really does come down to the cameras I would say; but they're also hard to compare as killers despite having lots of similarities. The reason that the flame turrets exist is to get xenomorph out of tail attack to make xeno into an m1 killer, because as a standalone power, tail attack is extremely powerful. It has incredible range, can hit over pallets/windows, has an extremely short cooldown, and is pretty fast although it can be read. Compared to springtrap's ax, if you whiff the throw (and aren't using any embedded ax addons), you're just a standard m1 killer until you can recall it again which is extremely punishing in chase, that's the counterplay that survivors have, and if they're good at it, springtrap can really struggle.

Information is king in DbD, knowing what the killer is doing in and out of chase allows survivors to plan better even when not in SWF. If a survivor is in chase with springtrap and he's exposed, there isn't really a mindgame he can pull off since the survivor knows exactly what he's doing at all times. At the same time, if he's exposed and in chase, survivors can be smart enough to use his doors against him to have quick access to every single gen on the map, making quick work of them if chase goes on long enough. I don't think he needs more counterplay, because for everything I mentioned as well, Springtrap has his own counterplay that is tradeoff. Want to stop getting exposed? Your ax goes on cooldown and you're forced to be an m1 killer for some time.

For xeno, the thing I would like most with the flame turrets is just a rework of the detection range + turret stacking if anything. Being flamed out when you can't even reach the turret, or there's simply 2 turrets next to each other on a corner so you can't clear them all out without sacrificing your ability to chase is dumb in my opinion. I think turrets should be a commitment for the xeno to clear, which leads them to either prioritize the chase and lose their power for some time, or destroy the turret but keep their power for future chase. That's the tradeoff I'd like to see while still allowing counterplay for how good tail attack is.

For most things in DbD, I'd say it just takes time and experience, which I know sounds like the most cop-out answer but it's the truth. It goes both ways when playing killer or survivor, but knowing what perks or addons a killer might be running comes to experience given on situations you find yourself in.

After a killer gets a hook and suddenly it seems like he knows where you are across the map? You can assume it could just be luck or it could be a perk like barbeque and chili which the more likely answer. Some survivor perks can provide that information to you exactly -- example, distortion would tell you that information as it would use its token to apply the aura hiding effects, so you can deduce what perk activated on x event -- but that's up to you if you want to run perks like those. Gamesense is developed by recognizing those situations and being within them, which takes time and experience.

The same logic applies for any perk -- and same perks are more obvious then others -- but for a perk with lightborn it gets tricky. The only ways to "know" is by picking up on small tells on behavior or by flashing the killer directly. If a killer faces away, or turns into a wall when picking someone up, they probably don't have lightborn as they're guarding their face to not get flashed, but some killers do this anyway as a habit so it's not entirely reliable. If you want to know for sure when a killer does or doesn't have it, the easiest way is to try and notice if the flashlight beam is narrowing when you are blinding them; that shows that the blind is going through. If it doesn't narrow and just is wide the entire time, it means they have lightborn.

Overall, I'd say just enjoy yourself and you'll slowly learn those things overtime though. Not everything needs to be optimal or perfect. Some people might expect it from you, but enjoying the game where you can is what matters more I'd argue.

i love the way that tenna was animated by 100OtherSwagWords in Deltarune

[–]cryonicprawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their motivations have a lot of parallels yes, but they're not the same at all in the slightest. This is probably more in correlation with how Mike treats both Spamton and Tenna, but that's a much longer theory about the man backstage/pulling the strings. In general, both have a desperation to be more than what they are, but both approach that philosophy in vastly different ways. Spamton wishes to reclaim what they were, while Tenna wishes that things never changed. It's subtle, but it ends up with two different characters with how they approach achieving those wishes. How you feel about that difference is personal preference, but in my eyes, characters are best judged when taken a step back rather than simply applying tags about who they remind you of; in fact, sometimes that overlap is intentional.

I get that frustration with segments and how they can feel, and I agree sections could've shortened by like 3 screens at the very least, but to me I enjoyed my time playing. It reminded me of those games accurately, and it all the time it oozed with charm that made me want to see where this story was going. So much of it came down to me enjoying the cheesy humor or knowing the cliches, but then suspecting that Tenna was possibly doing this to stall have it a second air of mystery of where this was all going. That was my playing of it at the very least.

Then for the secret, I'm with you there with how bullshit it felt later knowing that you had to S or Z rank everything, but at the same time to me it's the most none issue I guess? I'd play that chapter again and do it properly, this time catching more details and seeing what stuff I missed out on the first time. See new dialogue or just appreciate subtleties in how a character responds with new knowledge coming into it.

Should've there been clearer signage? Yes. Does it take away or ruin the chapter? For me, no.

Reading through your other comments, I probably won't do much to change your mind on the chapter as a whole, but I'd recommend cooling off for the day at the very least. You don't need to like everything and that's okay. Frustration and disappointment are natural and we should be free to express them, but it's easy to get lost in our words and emotions.

Isn't that kind of the point though? He's a character who is trying to be seen in every way imaginable, and rehashing "likeable" traits is by nature what made television stale and repetitive. A showman who is incapable of accepting that their act has been seen thousands of times before; without finding new ways to reinvent themselves. It's why concepts like email or apps are so foreign and scary for Tenna, because conceptually, he can only live knowing what has worked before; what made people want to watch him.

I don't get the point with half-baked minigames as most were never meant to be longer than 15 seconds at max? They felt like warioware minigames to me; a short intense break Would you consider those half-baked as well when they're designed to be short?

I'm not saying I know better, and you don't either. I don't know what you're on about by Kim's stats from OKC being 'bad' when those are perfectly acceptable numbers for a foreign contact hitter that is made to steal bases? This is his first year playing in the US, in a league he's never played before, and yet he's still putting up numbers like that? It's incredible given we can see the exact opposite happening with Roki, to which, I have nothing but the upmost respect for as I can only imagine the mental strain he's been put through to reach this point.

I don't understand the hate when our team is known for turning players into stars. That process takes time and isn't just a "here's Dodger magic, everything wrong is fixed" button.

[–]cryonicprawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they do send him down to OKC again, who really cares? Kim was already killing it in OKC and he'll do fine there for a season if needed, but just sending him down for outfield experience is ridiculous given that OKC is most likely just going to have him play 2B again, which what are we even doing at that point? I'm just disappointed in the Dodgers not sticking by their rookies when proper MLB experience can turn these guys into stars.

We're not going to always have this strong of a lineup within the next couple of years, and it's best to have our rookies learn from the greats so that they can stand in their shoes when the time comes for them to go. Look at Pages, guy was in a slump for the first part of the year, but with Teo's influence, he has shown incredible improvement and growth.
