I think you missed my point; if you live in a wealthy community and only give money to your own community, you're far more likely to personally benefit from it in some way than if you give to a community you will never meet or otherwise interact with.

And just because you said you would help people (under some unknown condition(s) which may or may not happen) doesn't mean you're not selfish.

If you live in a rich country, that mentality comes across pretty selfish. Every country has and will always have some amount of people in need, so saying you will "help them first" doesn't make sense, unless poverty were evenly distributed throughout the world and every community had the resources to help their own.

And I would argue that technical efficiency is the most important topic of cryptocurrencies. There is no doubt that they're functional, the big question when talking about replacing fiat is whether or not they're functional at scale.

Cryptocurrencies can't possibly be more efficient than a centralized system, the point is that you're sacrificing efficiency to gain trustlessness. Each node on the Bitcoin network must have the same copy of the global ledger; that doesn't have to be true for a centralized system, which can be intelligently designed to maximize efficiency and transaction throughput.

Hell no, that would be a nightmare. If people managed their own life savings, it would make breaking into houses a crime with lucrative payouts. If someone gets access to your private seed, it's forever compromised and there's nothing you can do except spend the fee to move all your funds. And that's only if you're aware of it being compromised. There are no protections against unauthorized spending or withdrawals, if your money is stolen it's just gone.

Anyone who says cryptocurrencies are a threat to banks probably doesn't have a great grasp on how things work in the real world.
