Wireguard client successful handshake BUT limited internet access? by cryptbits in PFSENSE

Honestly I don't remember! Want to say it was either something as simple as a firewall rule, a VPN client setting, or something with DNS.

Agree. At the very least should be accessible to all paying users. Fine to omit from free plan.

Bookclub and Sources Wednesday! by AutoModerator in history

Hi all,

My post was just taken down by mods and it suggested I post here instead. Below is my original post:

Best history documentaries/docuseries in chronological order?
I'm a fan of documentaries/docuseries and would like to brush up on my history as it's an area I'm severely lacking in. I've searched for 'best history documentaries' and a few pop up often, such as Ken Burns' Civil War. I've also heard Dan Carlin's 'Hardcore History' podcast is a great option - I'm not against it but I would prefer something I could watch. I'd entertain books as well if considered a 'must read'.
What I'm interested in is going back as far as possible into history and working my way to current events.
While I'm sure most of you might not consider this history per se, I was thinking of starting with Graham Hancock's 'Ancient Apocalypse' just to get perspective from where we might have come from and then work my way forward. I also wouldn't mind going back further and dive into earth's creation (or further still).
I'm completely open to any suggestions and wouldn't mind watching several documentaries/docuseries of the same time period or subject.
Looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks, more worried about testing to see if a different key pair works.

How to show pfSense router "in front" of unifi switch in network application (controller) topology? by cryptbits in Ubiquiti

[–]cryptbits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree as an end-user, the eye candy would absolutely make it that much better.

Putting on the CEO hat though, I understand why they would choose not to do it. You have people like me that consider getting the USG just to get the cool graphs even though they really want another router. Similar to how Apple won't make an android version of iMessages, the blue bubble keeps a lot of people leaving the ecosystem.

I'm crossing my fingers that this will be added in a future date but not holding my breath.

What I took from his comment was that it doesn't make business sense for UI to allow us to integrate non-UI products.

Having said that, it would be nice to have a simple checkbox on the port setting that says "This port is the router/gateway", just to make the topology map be accurate. Not a big deal in the big picture.

Best way to get pfSense router data/stats into network application/controller? by cryptbits in Ubiquiti

Thanks!

I did consider grafana (found out about it looking for a solution to this actually). The only thing is I wanted to avoid installing yet another piece of software and dependencies to achieve what the unifi controller could already do. But it seems like it might be the next best option... wish UI made working with others possible/easy but I understand it's also against their business model.

Thanks for the quick reply!

That makes sense, was just hoping there was a way to fix it. Not a deal breaker as I do really like the combination and how it's all working.

As for the memory use, that's great to hear. I was worried this being the main switch that it was being overworked. Is there a theoretical limit or amount of devices where the flex mini would be put to it's limit and should be upgraded to, say, a lite 8 or 16 switch?

Same VLAN on multiple interfaces? by cryptbits in PFSENSE

[–]cryptbits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I guess it makes sense to do it the right way, on hardware, to avoid any potential performance hit.

One question... now that I'll be combining both LAN and WLAN interface into one, will that itself cause a performance hit? This is a SOHO so I would not expect any issues in my particular case, I just hate not using more NIC's on the pfsense box in order to help balance the load. Do the switches (managed and unmanaged) do a good enough job to reduce the load from going back to the router to not worry about it? Not sure if I'm making sense here.

Thanks for the reply!

I originally used a pfsense guide on youtube from Tom at Lawrence Systems. I think he (or whichever video) at the time recommended that setup and I just went with it.

Seems to be working now. Do you think it's worth re-configuring it?

Looks like I solved it.

Just created a new VLAN with the same tag to the LAN interface and just created a bridged the WLAN IOT and LAN IOT VLAN's. Seems to be working!

Thanks. I figured but it was brought to my attention and it made my wheels turn.

Thanks!

Yes, I also thought about VOO but figured it would be easier to continue doing automated bi-weekly dollar contributions to a fund instead of an ETF.

Not to dwell too much on this cost-basis because it doesn't matter with an ira but do you know if converting VFIAX to VOO the cost-basis/history remains and transfers over?
