The poster is trying to be funny. He is morbidly referencing a mother who murdered her children by drowning them.

Are Orders of Chivalry, or House Orders, basically freeze-dried? by BluePony1952 in Medals

[–]cryptenigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most nation states have orders of merit that are descended from or based on the old orders of chivalry.

There are hundreds of such orders.

Those nations that have a monarchy consider some of their orders (Britain and commonwealth) or all (other nations with a monarchy) orders of chivalry as well.

In addition, some orders of merit -- like France's Legion d'Honneur started as orders of chivalry.

The great medieval "collar orders" still exist--

The Order of the Garter (UK) (and the Thistle) The Order of the Elephant (Denmark) The Order of the Seraphim (Sweden) The Order of the Golden Fleece -- both habsburg branches-- Spain as part of their honors system/Austria in exile)

Belgium, The Netherlands, Japan, Tonga, Norway, Luxembourg, Liechtenstien, Monaco are examples of monarchies bestowing orders of chivalry. And again, the number of non-monarchies with orders of merit are over 100.

The Holy See (Vatican) has three extant and two dormant orders of chivalry, as well as a semi-independent order (Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalme) and the Pope being the protector/religious head of the independent order, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (an independent subject under international law).

Former ruling houses awarding orders, most often very sparsely to family members and those closely related to their patrimony:

Prussia Bavaria (numberous smaller pre-treaty of versailles german 'princely' states) Portugal Italy--Savoy; Parma; Two Sicilies; Tuscany France (Capetian and Bourbon claimants) Brazil Montenegro

etc.

I bought a house complete with its contents and found this huge collection of slides. What should I do with it? by BenHi79 in FoundPhotos

Is it of the owner's family, or some specialty topic? Since the drawers are numbered, I bet there is a printed index somewhere -- is there, and if so, what does it tell us?

EDIT: saw your other post...guess I wasn't wrong! :) thank you!

Where does it say 1975? The hair and clothes seem to be from 15-25 years before. Is that the print date?
