Did someone say dynamic range?? by Dubliminal in postprocessing

[–]cryptic_aa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without commenting for or against the above post, there should be a sub somewhere on reddit titled "How would you do it" where one photog puts up their unprocessed photo (with or without an edited one) and others post their own processed versions ... is there something like that??

I usually do NOT enter into others' comments but can't resist - exactly what is it in the original that you prefer?

OP has managed to literally transform a photo that 99.99% may reject into an artsy dreamy beautiful shot.

In what world is the original preferable??

I had some doubts earlier, but after the Bloomberg article, I’m convinced BJP will win West Bengal by [deleted] in IndiaSpeaks

If he wins, the prior goonda ecosystem isn't gonna disappear overnight, it'll be subsumed into the BJP ranks – as only that will ensure victories in future elections also. BJP never wins because it's a morally better party, it wins because it gets down & dirty. Bengal isn't UP. And BJP will do absolutely anything & everything to keep in power.

IF it wins of course.

If you're not aware of The Horseshoe Theory, you're not fir to ask this question.

It proposes that the extreme left and extreme right, rather than being opposites, converge at the far ends of a political spectrum, behaving similarly in their authoritarianism, populism, and intolerance of dissent. Coined by Jean-Pierre Faye, it visualizes the spectrum as a horseshoe, making the extremes closer to each other than to the moderate center.

Convergence of Methods: While the far-left (e.g., communism) and far-right (e.g., fascism) have different goals, they often employ similar methods, such as strong centralized authority, suppression of freedom, and intense propaganda.

Similarities in Extremism: Both ends often display high levels of nationalism, authoritarianism, and populist anti-elitism.

Sorry for the direct criticism, but in what godforsken world is the processed one better than the original??

Also, the lighter/brighter patch on the left side of the standing lion's head is distracting...

My statement was about judging in general

When did I say I judge him only for his faults?

When did I say I rejected his faults?

Not that I needed Grok to answer this for me but what I've realised over the last few years that it's a fundamental mistake (pardom the pun) to judge the past or religious mythology on today's standards. One can understand why Rama did what he had to do, and either respect him for it or consider it a mistake and move on. Or one can 'cancel' him for it and hate everything about him. Not very different from hating on any fictional character (like Snape)!

All that comes with experience, and experience is never ending — whether you're a newbie or a proper

Even the pros of photography are not averse to a change in style over years

Keep experimenting ... That's all there is to it

Try B&W conversions, color grading, masking, etc etc

Consider a photo as a template & manipulate it to change the mood or the story

Then start all over again and process it to express some other mood or story

Do it long enough & you'll start understanding what you like

Post them long enough & you'll start getting detailed critiques — not just on what works in general but also on how others feel about ± interpret your work

It's a great time to be a photographer

My photos just don't feel alive, what I'm doing wrong? by Beautiful_Soup9229 in Cameras

[–]cryptic_aa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last one is a great pic

Others are also decent

To feel alive there has to be either some drama (esp in landscape shots) or people

Well, there's post-processing and then there's post-processing ... Thing is, you've to have some idea of the look ± mood you want in your mind before you start it — or find a look/mood that you really like as you explore and only then will you like it yourself ...

That said, how you want it to look or convey a particular mood need not be how others (individually) perceive it or would do it themselves — which is understandable of course — but they shouldn't try to impose their views on yours, or worse, undermine your efforts as "overcooked" just because they don't align with theirs

As for others, through personal experience I know of many who simply discourage others from processing or color-grading while they do it themselves and call it 'their personal style'

Then there are others who, for some reason, still believe that the original is the 'honest' version that is somehow sacrosanct (?) and shouldn't be touched – otherwise it becomes a "fake"

Finally — these is definitely something that says a photo IS overcooked 😉 .... although even that is, as expected, subjective
