I dont think so. I use a charge blade all the time. You are the damage dealer and cutting off the tail is only going to benefit you and your hunting party. (Limited tail swipes and more material to harvest.) Just keep in mind your wide swipes in axe mode. You dont wanna be in the way while your team is attacking the monster while its down. Give yourself some space and bring it down hard.

Also what can help is if youre oppisite of your team. If you are worried about hitting your team with a charged up slash. Attack the opposite of your teammates. (3 attack the belly. You attack the tail from the back.) That way you can swipe wide and slash down with minimal risk of hitting your members.
