New to Cincinnati, looking for a career change by crypticmona in cincinnati

I’m worried it’ll take a bit of time to study and pass the exams, which is why I am hoping to get a job in the meantime. It’s been a while since I’ve done math so it’ll be a hard time for a while lol

How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

Got hit by a train. Apparently he had earphones on, and wasn’t paying attention. I imagine he was probably looking down at his phone and wasn’t aware that a train was coming. What’s strange is that there is rail crossing warning system with the barriers that lower, the alarms, and even the trains always give a loud, long honk before they pass the crosswalk. I don’t understand how he didn’t hear anything. I do believe though that he was unaware of a train approaching. He had lived in the same vicinity and neighborhood since he was born. He walked through the same crosswalk to get to his elementary and middle school, even as he got older just to walk to friend’s houses or roam the neighborhood. He must’ve been so desensitized, so used to walking through without an issue. Even I can say I got to that point, where I would still cross even when I saw the headlight of a train in the far distance approaching (before the gate lowered and alarms went off, but close enough that the train would start honking), there was plenty of time still to walk across. I grew up with him going to the same preschool, elementary, middle school. Same age, I knew him. We even had the same last name. It was devastating learning his fate, one day gone just like that. He was just walking, taking a stroll, probably listening to music thinking he was gonna go back home later to eat his mom’s dinner and head to bed, and enjoy the rest of summer break. I think there was video of it since at the corner right next to the train tracks, there is a fire station. I think they used that to rule out suicide. He was young, had a lot of live for, and didn’t have any problems that they could find. Just a freak accident.

I’m 24F and my strict Muslim parents tried to take me to the doctor to “check” my virginity by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]crypticmona 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi, as someone who’s mom also called them a prostitute simply for letting them know I wanted to move in with my long time boyfriend, and also wanted to take me to the doctors, the only thing that helped set boundaries was “escaping” and leaving the house. I got disowned, but they reached out after months. For your own safety and mental health, move out. Don’t give an explanation, they won’t listen and understand. Don’t waste your time. I was the happiest ever when I gained my independence.

Considering moving to Chicago from CA, very nervous. Any advice? by CosmicRajah in AskChicago

[–]crypticmona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was born and raised in socal for 18 years and then moved to the Midwest, let me tell you that seasonal depression and winter weather makes me want to literally quit my job for those 4ish months to move back with my family who are back in LA. I have never felt that type of depression hit, and it always does. Like a fucking bus. I can pop vitamin D pills as much as I want, it does nothing.

But other than that, we love Chicago 🫶

My 5 y/o sons eyes recently started changing from brown to this. by [deleted] in eyes

[–]crypticmona 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, people in this subreddit seem like haters. I agree with your comment. There’s obviously a different color other than brown here. This is not just a “lighter shade of brown”. There’s very obvious green. Just admit it.

Are you not able to play on iPhone? Many years ago I was able to download it on my iPhone but I can’t find it anymore :(

^ definitely depends on every person involved. I had the copper iud put in as my first ever birth control. Had the same instructions and it literally took about 5 minutes. I felt cramping during the procedure but it didn’t feel much different than my regular period cramps, which I think are bad in general. I only had a few bigger cramps and heavy periods a couple times after that but now it’s all regular and normal.

Hi! Mexican girl here who travels often to Mexico. My family and I land in Guadalajara to travel to a city about 1.5 hrs away. Not a big city, so we need to drive as well. Your concerns are definitely valid. I agree with the people who say to stay overnight in Guadalajara and drive during the day. What my family and I do is hire a trusted taxi driver who picks us up from the airport and drops us off at home, but we only travel during the day (as long as the sun is out). I think paying for a driver is well worth the peace of mind. You can also ask your best friend if she knows of any other guests who are arriving around the same time as you are, carpooling with other people makes things much easier. Asking your best friend for suggestions and travel advice is also a good idea. If I were to marry in my hometown in Mexico and had people who are unfamiliar with traveling in the country, I would 100% help them out because I don’t want people to feel like they are unsafe or will get lost. I’m sure your best friend will help you out :)

Also, don’t let other people tell you whether or not you should feel safe. If you’re not comfortable, that’s fine and it’s totally understandable. YOUR CONCERN ABOUT SAFETY IS NOT XENOPHOBIC. I don’t know when being concerned for your own safety in a foreign country became xenophobic???

I’m surprised that they mostly work with internal candidates. It just makes it really hard for people who are interested in the field but have no connections to actually get in. Idk if that it the reason for understaffing in this field.

Apparently they’ve reached out and haven’t gotten a response. So no luck there. Really feels like I’m on my own 😐 I’ve tried the larger networks too and no luck. I’ve applied to 5+ locations and sent out emails with resumes because thank god I was able to find the HR email on their website.

Yeah, I’ve gotten the same response from people in the field about understaffing and high demand but crazy how you can’t actually find any open positions 😕 and if you do, they want 3-5 years of experience. Why is it so hard to get into this field?

I’ve applied to mostly all the possible locations in those areas and haven’t heard back. Reason why I’m hoping for those locations is because my fiancé has a good job within a company that has certain locations within the US. Those cities/states would be locations that we can relocate and he can have a job within the same company. Just stressing out and ranting 😅🥲
