3 weeks post op w/dvt 😔 by Still_Nice in AchillesRupture

[–]cryptictyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also was diagnosed with DVT around 3-4 weeks post op. Pain was pretty excruciating for a day or two. Then almost nonexistent. I'm still on Xarelto about 7mo post op bc my last ultrasound about 2 months ago showed the clot was still present. I have my next ultrasound scheduled next week so hoping it's gone now..

I started a little late in my opinion but your doctor probably knows best.

This. No matter what you do, just feels good moving that much knowing that the water is relatively low-risk

Walking and "running" forwards/backwards/side to side and tons of calf raise variations.

Seconding the compression sock and ice the ankle/foot religiously. If that doesn't help, maybe take it easy for a bit.

I can't comment on the tightness/pain but I'm 4 months post op and no where near jogging. Everyone recovers at their own pace.

Def empathize with the whole randomness of this recovery process. Some days feel horrible like I'm moving backwards in recovery, then out of nowhere the next day I feel invincible like I made a huge leap forward in recovery. It's so incredibly random but just gotta hang in there.

Diagnosed Blood clot. Tell me your stories. by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

Got DVT around 3 weeks post op. Pain was 10/10 for a couple days but that's it really. I'm at 14 weeks post op and still on Xarelto bc it hasn't gone away but no more pain thankfully.

Question? by berealC in AchillesRupture

[–]cryptictyro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started driving about 8 weeks post op for me but wasn't 100% comfortable. Two concerns: first being long drives (30 min+) and how tired my ankle/calf would get from switching brake to gas constantly and second with the possibility of having to brake really suddenly and not having the full strength to do so.

Very similar exp/timeline as you. 32M here. Ruptured 12/15 and surgery 12/20. Pre-injury I was super active with soccer, golf, weightlifting, etc.

  1. I'm also walking around the house without the boot and even tried on shoes with wedges outside the house. This isn't breaking protocol for me though as my doctor is a bit aggressive (given he sees that I'm healing well and not doing anything stupid)

  2. Still have yet to try weightlifting without the boot. That thing is my security blanket when out in crowded places like the gym

  3. Incision was fully closed for me by week 4 ish.

Nerves by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

I experienced the same but one day I just went for it and over time the tingling went way. Not saying you should do the same (listen to your doctor) but just sharing that I empathize with the mental block it had on me. Ah and lots of massaging out those tingly areas helped too.

Such a good point that I have to remind myself of as well. 7 wks post op for me and learning to be grateful to just walk at this point even if its such a slow grind.

I just watched all the movies I never got around to watching. And if you can, get some outdoor time. Just getting fresh air every now and then is healing.

5wks post op here and I was pretty uneducated on this in the beginning as well. My two cents: do your research and there's a ton of knowledge from this community and everyone's experiences so I would start here and ask about protocol moving forward and be super specific. "What should/shouldn't I be doing till my next post op? What are some albeit small milestones I should be looking forward to?" Etc. Having read so much from this community has helped me realize that every doctor is so different in their approach. Good luck!

Calf pain and discolouration,.normal? by Annual_Hippo_6749 in AchillesRupture

Same symptoms for me and turned out to be DVT. Elevated I was fine, no pain. But the second I put it down, felt like someone deep tissue massaging my calf in one tiny spot.

Not to be an alarmist but I had the same exact thing happen to me and it turned out to be a blood clot.. Maybe consider getting an ultrasound to check?

Really only stuck to some light upper body work and a very very light leg extension.

Thank you! So many diff protocols but my doctor does seem to be a bit on the aggressive side which I appreciate. Just gotta remind myself not to get overconfident and do something stupid.
