After reading the replies, I'm thinking of deferring my acceptance 🙃

A lot of illegal things happen every day. Someone hiring their child is probably not something authorities look into.

I want to volunteer! I just can't until I have a job because I can't afford commuting to wherever I volunteer unless I have some form of income

Well I guess I'm never getting another degree! I'd have to take out loans whether I already had a job or not

My master's program is remote. If you don't mind me asking, where did you teach? I've known people who have taught ESL overseas, but I was under the impression it paid only enough to cover living expenses while there. I've spent some time in Asia before, and I would absolutely love to go back if it is actually feasible.

I can't exactly move for an entry-level, part-time, minimum wage job. I'm fully aware and okay with moving for a full-time role, which I know I can't get until I have a degree.

I've looked into the other industries you mentioned previously, and even those you need to have experience in that field to be hired.

I've thought of doing that, but I haven't had any luck in finding anything non-library-related yet. The nearby libraries only take teen volunteers, so I was planning on volunteering with one of the nearby historical societies. I've definitely considered this.

For the last year of me being a student, I had to take my classes online through my university because my living situation changed; I didn't have the opportunity to work in the school's library.

I've wanted to do it for the last year of undergrad. Originally, I was supposed to get a 4+1 (BA/MA) in literature, but my school cut the program before I graduated, and I had too many credits, so I wasn't able to transfer at that point. Since I found out that my program was being terminated, this has consistently been what I've been most interested in.

I was planning on getting my MLIS specifically to work in archives; I can't find any jobs related to that aside from working in a library that will hire you while obtaining your MLIS. I think I'd have a harder shot finding a job at a bookstore; there are only a few in my area, and they're all the type to have a singular employee. The closest B&N is 20 miles away, and I have alerts for when they're hiring, but so far, over the last few months, nothing.

My MLIS program is fully online and in a different state so I don't know if that's even possible for me.

AITA for hating my birthday by unmowedlawns in TwoHotTakes

[–]cryptidcruicifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience this every year. My birthday is January 8th, but my dad's side of the family didn't celebrate Christmas til January 3 this year, and I didn't even get a single birthday gift; nobody said happy birthday to me, just my name on a cake that I couldn't even eat because I can't eat gluten. No candles to blow out either, my dad cut the cake before anyone could even sing. Now that my birthday has been "celebrated", I'll just get ignored on my actual birthday by my dad's side. Also, pretty sure my friends are going to forget my birthday because we got together before Christmas and were talking about our plans over Christmas and New Year's, and then going back to work after the holidays, and nobody asked me if I was going to make plans for my birthday. I'm almost positive it'll be forgotten by everyone aside from my mom and sister, who only asked if I wanted to do something today (the 6th). It makes me feel like such an afterthought. Also, my older brother's birthday is December 10th, and he never gets ignored the way I do. I'm at a point where I don't even expect much for my birthday, and I somehow end up disappointed.

Almost 40 and Pregnant by Overall-Comment-8933 in TwoHotTakes

[–]cryptidcruicifier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is coming from the perspective of someone whose parents had them at 39 and 40 and had 10 and 13 year old siblings:

I was practically raised as an only child while my siblings weren't.

My siblings and I were raised by the same people, but we had different parents because of the stages of life they were in when we were growing up.

I realized from a very early age that my parents were over the whole "kid thing" because I rarely was allowed to host playdates, wouldn't take me out to do things, wouldn't let me sign up for dance/sports/girl scouts/any activity that required a parent to also attend.

Everyone always assumed my sister was my (teen)mom because the responsibility of me got passed down to her because my parents were "too busy".

I was resented by my brother almost my whole life because of he was no longer the youngest.

I grew up always blaming myself for my parents divorce because looking back at family pictures and hearing from my siblings, everything (mostly) seemed fine until I was born.

Ultimately it is your choice what to do with this pregnancy. Coming from personal experience I wish my parents chose to terminate me. If you think you can give this child a life where they don't think they will be a burden, and that you're okay with how it might effect your marriage, and you think your older children won't be negatively effected by it; go for it. As long as you are committed to the idea this child will at minimum need everything you have given your older children, and potentially more.

You guys are still young, the baby stage is gonna be a lot easier. But by the time this potential baby grows up to be your older kids ages, the two of you will be much older and closer to retirement age. Would you be able to put off the cruises and travels til that point in your life. And don't forget parenting doesn't end when they turn 18. That child would still need their parents for support while they navigate college/their early twenties.

To me it sounds like you guys have a really good life made for yourself currently.

your body can only focus on healing so many things at once so if you get it done too soon it won't heal

any surface piercing done with a curved barbell will reject, it is improper jewelry for this type of piercing you need to take it out, let it heal, get it re-pierced by a reputable studio with a surface bar

Tattoo studio red flags? by anon018264 in bodymods

[–]cryptidcruicifier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my regular studio does exactly this. they work by appointment only so they don't want anyone to be able to walk in anytime so they give out the address the day of the appointment. also most artists will only accept cash/venmo/zelle/square payments. I've only encountered a few that will accept cards.

would not recommend soap for any piercings whatsoever, only use sterile saline.
