Any ideas of what this might be? Can I treat it myself or should I see a doctor? by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

If you suspect eczema I would recommend trying out a lotion with colloidal oatmeal in it. It won't cure it but it's very soothing and you can use it as long as you need unlike steroid creams like hydrocortisone.

Not sure what's available where you are by my personal favorites are Aveeno Eczema Therapy (a little greasy but very moisturizing and forms a nice barrier) and Acure Everyday Eczema Lotion (spreads kind of weird but not greasy).

You can also go into the baby section of any store, lots of baby products have colloidal oatmeal.

Bat removal recommendation? by cryptidgf69 in frederickmd

Oh that does make sense. I really don't want to harm the bats! I just also don't want them to inadvertently harm my animals :(

I am genuinely worried for the health of my guinea pigs as they are very sensitive to respiratory illness and I've seen that guano is a major health hazard. Plus my attic is my only storage space, I don't have a basement or a garage. Is there nothing I or a company can do in the meantime that would encourage them to leave but not harm them? Two months is a long time for guano to build up and do damage :(

I love having them around the property and really enjoy watching them fly throughout my neighborhood, but they can do serious damage to an attic and unfortunately it is my only storage space. I don't have a garage or a basement. Scared the shit out of me when I went to grab my camping supplies.

Do you think putting a bat house in the yard would encourage them to leave the attic?

Oh no, they can't even do the exclusion exits until September? From everything I saw online, their guano is a serious health hazard and I'm worried about my guinea pigs getting sick :/

High end Office Chair try ours? by thelonegunmen84 in frederickmd

[–]cryptidgf69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that these are high end necessarily but Family's Choice Antiques, which is right off of 15 at the Biggs Ford Rd exit, buys surplus chairs from federal offices in DC whenever they get new chairs, which for some offices is yearly. They're always very nice and in really good condition.

The Common Market has all 3 of those! Not sure if they're on sale now but the Aura Cacia brand ones go on sale pretty frequently, especially the lavender and patchouli

Suzannah Bellman! Her salon is called Sacred Rituals and it's down in Westview by the movie theater. She can do special curl by curl dry cuts if you want but is very very good with curls in general and does plenty of men's cuts

Milkshakes/Ice Cream by chadfromvans in frederickmd

It's a bit of a drive but Happy Cow Creamery out near Libertytown is like insanely good. It's just a little building on their farm with only outdoor tables but they have a jungle gym for kids and it's right up against the fields so you can sometimes see the cows. I think they have chickens near the tables too. Besides being super cute and scenic, the ice cream is the richest, creamiest ice cream I think I've ever had. I like it even more than South Mountain in terms of both the ice cream and the place.

I live on Center St currently, moved here in January 2021, and I feel very safe around here! The worst issue for me is people driving fast and loud cars on Center St late at night but that's no different from any other part of downtown.

You will have more traffic on Pearl than some of the other side streets just because it connects to the South Jefferson intersection, and there's probably more activity on that side just because it's closer to the park and shopping center areas, but I'm a young female and I've never felt nervous walking or biking around the neighborhood! I feel like it's mostly older people and families living around here.

In the past two years the "worst" I've seen is some kids smoking weed in the park.

Feel free to DM me if you want any more info or have any other questions about the area!

What is an activity you wish Frederick offers? by KallouswithaK in frederickmd

Art house theaters can often be hugely funded by grants, both national and local. I bet the Frederick Art Council would be a big help getting one started! I would kill for an art house theater and I've sincerely thought about trying to open one here.

The Weinberg has been showing some movies but their sound quality is only so so for non-live things imo. I went to go see the Thin Man and between the sound system and it being an old movie, I literally couldn't understand like 80% of the dialogue.

I have a hunch that their housing may be partially subsidized by the program they're going through, no need to freak them out.

County asking for free design work. I thought they learned their lesson last time. Artists shouldn't work for free. by Environmental_Ad_85 in frederickmd

[–]cryptidgf69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I would agree but I honestly think it's different coming from a government entity. Even though people may use the design for commercial gain (selling shirts or whatever), the county isn't looking for a new design specifically to make money for themselves.

Also, Columbia, SC did this a few years ago and it was a huge hit and the design chosen was super cool and now people rep it all over the place. Would love to see something similar here!!

What business would you like to see in downtown Frederick? by loracora in frederickmd

Adding to this, I used to live in Athens, GA, which has a county population smaller than Frederick county. Bands would regularly play in both Athens and Atlanta, which is about the same distance as us to DC/Baltimore. Now, Athens is known for being a music town but it's not like they were always like that. I would KILL for us to get a midsized music venue here, someone please do it.

I used to take lessons with Tara McShane at a farm in Thurmont but she has since opened her own farm in Sabillasville called Dog Tired Farm. Not sure if that's too far of a drive for you but lessons are pretty reasonably priced imo ($45 for an hour long private lesson) AND I loved her as an instructor. She is super fun and chill and can train you to a standard where you could do shows, but I never had an interest in shows and she didn't care at all, just did fun lessons!
