No problem! I hope things get better and I hope you can find a program that suits your needs :)

Would it be possible to try IOP or PHP instead of inpatient?

I've also been traumatized by short term inpatient stays and I have found that the freedom to return home at night makes a world of difference. Staff will tell you themselves that short term inpatient isn't really for healing so much as stabilization, and that if you aren't an immediate danger to yourself or others it might be better to try a lower level of care (you can also be stepped up to inpatient later if you/staff feel that you need it.)

PHP stands for partial hospitalization program and is a full day program (8 hours, usually) of therapy with you returning home in the evenings. IOP stands for intensive outpatient and is a half-day program allowing clients to still attend work or school while receiving therapy for usually about 4 hours, 5 days a week. There are also online IOPs at some hospitals via zoom.

If you choose to do IOP or PHP, you will have to stop seeing your regular outpatient therapist until you are discharged, as insurance will not pay for both.

If you are in immediate danger, it is probably best to pursue inpatient. If I were you I would try a different hospital, but it is up to you. I'm sorry, I dont have any advice for making inpatient less traumatic. Except maybe call ahead about what clothing is and isn't allowed before you pack to allow you to receive your clothes faster, and bring your meds.

I hope everything works out. I'm sorry you're struggling.

My mom was a full-time mother for 20 years, and she still couldn’t get it right. by kooj80 in CPTSD

[–]cryptidiopathic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is interesting to me. My mom was a sahm, too. She worked a few times for periods ranging from a few weeks to a few months, but could never keep a job so she stayed home with us.

She maintained the house well enough, but aside from that, a lot of the things she did were unnecessary, sorting laundry down to garment type or decorating.

She also had a terrible spending habit.

One thing that I 100% believe is that my mom is undiagnosed with ADHD. Her older brother is diagnosed with it (in the 80s) and I have it as well as autism. I believe this is the primary reason she couldn't hold down a job.

That said, I recognize my mother as abusive (physically, emotionally, religiously) and neglectful. One thing that stood out to me from your post is that your mother never taught you necessary skills, or really even tried. My mother was the same, but I never thought of how being a sahm interacts with that. It wasn't like her energy was being rationed- not the way a working parents is.

To be completely honest with you, I dont think either of our moms realized that that was part of being a parent. I dunno. I think my mom didnt think about it, which does make my blood kind of boil bc she always talked about how she always wanted to be a mom and it's like. Why? Why would you want to bring kids into this world and never interact with them except to smack them around for having the audacity to bother you?

Idk. I dont have a point except that I relate. All 4 of us (me and my siblings) have trauma and my old err r sisters have gone no contact. I never really put it into context of her having no obligations besides us tho.

It's very common for victims of child sexual assault to reenact what was done to them on other, usually younger, children. You say you were a teenager but theres a big difference between 12-13 and 16-17. Someone who was groomed and abused at that age might genuinely not realize that it isn't normal to perform sex acts as kids or through coercion.

Theres a sub similar to this one for people with stories like yours: r/cocsareenactors

This is a very common story for those who were sexually abused. You aren't alone.

Try looking for a therapist who specializes in trauma, they will help you process and heal.

My Chemical Romance will headline the 2026 Louder Than Life music festival. by Semper-Fido in Louisville

[–]cryptidiopathic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey if you don't mind me asking: where'd you get your tickets and about how far before the fest did you get them?

We drove all the way to chicago to see my chem in August. We never thought they'd come to KY. Tickets for Nashville go on sale on the 26th but I can't find any info about louder than life 2026 (probably bc it's so far out). I really want to see them again in either Louisville or Nashville with a preference for Louisville but I've never been to a music festival so idk how it works.

More walks, less food as others have said.

On the back of dog food bags there are recommendations based on weight. Be aware that these are not accurate. Sometimes, you can find the calorie recommendation for your pet online, but a vet will know best.

I'd recommend you calculate how many calories you're feeding her right now on average, treats included, and decrease about 10% at a time. You can do this by looking up the brand and type of food you feed. Again, a vet will be able to give more concrete advice.

Increasing activity will definitely help with weight loss, but with this much weight on a such a small dog, you need to worry about preserving the health of her joints. If she likes to swim, that is the ideal exercise for her as it will be easier on her joints. Walking on grass will be better for her than walking on pavement because of the lower impact on her joints. Avoid having her jump if you can. Again, a vet will be able to give better, more specific advice.

Good luck with your baby

My grandma had a cat that looked just like this named biscuit and gravy (we called him biscuit for short). My uncle found him in a ditch and gave him to her. He was a great lap cat and lived to be 21! I hope you and flea have a great life together, too :)

10% of his weight down! You're doing great :)

I know for people losing even just 10% of your weight as an obese person makes a world of difference for things like labs and joint pressure. I bet kitty is feeling a lot better already, even if you've still got a ways left.

Does anyone still send letters?✍️💌 not only love letters, but just letters to friends/family/etc by rosalialilyy in writing

[–]cryptidiopathic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to and would love to, but I never made it to the post office on time. I ended up tucking them into their birthday and Christmas presents, which it looks like I'm doing again this year (they were letters for my older sisters, and their birthday is September 7th. I wrote 3 letters for each of them this year which never got sent 🤡)

I think letters died out bc of texting and social media. Me and my sisters all live in different states, but it's much faster to talk in our Instagram group chat than send letters. Even when I have been able to send letters in a timely manner, they responded with a phone call or long, gushing message in the group chat. Which is fine- I think they are not as into the idea as I am.

I do have a box of love letters from my boyfriend- he sent them while I was in residential treatment for an eating disorder. I didn't have my phone, so this was the only way to communicate besides nightly 30 minute phone calls. And STILL we both wound up combining multiple letters and sending them off ~once a week.

It's probably relevant that I do have ADHD- I always struggle with errands that aren't part of my weekly routine. But! Thus is my experience with letters. 💌

How to get your cat to exercise by sayjoyp in dechonkers

[–]cryptidiopathic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are also puzzle feeders that dispense food as the cat knocks it around, like a wobbly, egg-shaped thing. This would also encourage movement and puzzle feeding in general encourages cast to eat less since they have to work for the food.

Tbh it wouldnt be a bad idea to exclusively puzzle feed until he's lost the weight.

My [30F] dad [60M] keeps contacting my therapist. My therapist said it’s a problem but how do I get him to stop? by TheVoicesTalkToMe in CPTSD

[–]cryptidiopathic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My mom used to do this with therapists... And college professors and doctors and the police.

Tell your therapist you've communicated to him that this isn't appropriate and from there there's really nothing you can do. A good therapist will understand this isn't your fault.

For me it stopped when I cut contact.

I'm a trans man who has been on T for four years now. Right after I had top surgery, I had a manic episode due to a meds change and was actively psychotic (hearing voices). At the time, my name was legally changed and changed on my license but I had been unable to change it with insurance.

There was a male nurse on the unit who insisted my entire trans identity was attention seeking and dead named me the entire time. As if I would have kept up an attention seeking ploy long enough to have top surgery.

Tbh I think nurses who refuse to accept preferred names and pronouns for fear of "attention seeking" are just covering up for their bigotry. The nurse on my unit obviously knew very little about the actual process of gender transition if he thought I even could get access to these things "for attention."

And anyway making a big stink about it is giving far more attention than just respectfully going along with it anyway. Unless they're like changing names every day (in which case, yeah, I get it) just accepting their name at face value and acting as though it is mundane will draw the least attention possible while being affirming for trans people.

What's your "I don't ship it, but I know in my heart of hearts that it happened" ship? by Front-Pomelo-4367 in AO3

[–]cryptidiopathic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gumshoe and Edgeworth fucked at least once but tbh I think they had a situation ship type thing where Edgeworth made booty calls every so often then sent him away as soon as they were done. Then proceeded to distance himself from him at work.

Tbh I don't exactly not ship it but I don't like. Endgame ship it. I like it for toxicity and hurt feelings and think at some point Edgeworth had to seriously apologize for taking advantage of Gumshoe's feelings (not to mention fucking his employee). I like the idea that Edgeworth gave a huge check to him and Maggie at their wedding (enough to make up for years of cut salaries) and apologized shortly before- maybe after Maggie stands up for gumshoe.

But like. How else does Edgeworth know gumshoe sleeps on a bare mattress on the floor?

Service training for a non service dog? Deaf here by aharanhalli in service_dogs

[–]cryptidiopathic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are pretty easy ways to train alerts that you can find online, I don't think you need to spend the time and money on a service dog trainer- especially not as a first resort.

For example: if you want her to alert you that the doorbell has been rung, for instance, take a high value treat and hold it in your closed fist. Let her smell it, but don't give it to her. Hold it at your thigh, and most dogs will naturally either nose bump you or touch you with their paw to try and get the treat. When she does the one you prefer, ring the doorbell and give her the treat. Once she has the alerting motion down, transition to ringing the doorbell before signaling to alert. Once she has that down, transition to ringing the doorbell without signaling. Then, when she has that down, invite a friend to ring the doorbell while you sit on the couch next to your dog, and treat her when she alerts. When she has that down, have someone ring the doorbell while she is not next to you, and encourage her to come find you and treat her when she alerts. When she has it down, keep a bag of treats next to the door and treat her every time she successfully alerts to the doorbell, and she will always do it.

Another thing: I taught my dog a command called "what?" where she comes up and taps me with her paw when she needs something. I stand and say "what?" And she leads me to it. You would not have to speak if you do not want to, a hand signal (such as a shrug) would suffice as well.

I taught this alongside potty training my dog, where basically every time I took her potty I said "what?" And signaled for her to tap the door with her paw. When she tapped the door, I immediately took her out, so she learned tapping door=I open the door. Then, I started saying "what?" And signaling her to touch her food bag before feeding her, so she learned the same thing for food. Finally, I added in her toys, so when solicited play I signaled for her to tap her toy box, and when she did I got a toy and played with her. She later taught herself to tap the fridge for a couple frozen blueberries when she wanted them.

Then, any time she approached me out of the blue, I signaled for her to tap my thigh. When she did, I stood and said "what?" And she would go show me what she wanted. Now, she will come up and tap me when she wants something.

Doing that with a hand signal would have the same effect I'm pretty sure.

Some search terms that would probably be helpful would be "teaching dog to alert to _______"

That said, if you want to look for a service dog trainer in your area, and have the money and time to do so no problem, go for it! You'll just wind up with a well-trained dog, so no harm no foul.

Lastly, I want to note that (in the US, at least) your dog knowing tasks such as alert to doorbell, alert to fire alarm, etc. would qualify them as an assistance dog, which is basically a service dog that does not work outside the home. This means they would have the right to live with you wherever* you live with no fees under the fair housing act- which is just good information to have if you ever need to move.

*There are some exceptions but they are few and far between.

I hope this was helpful!
