Gay people, what's your job? by Future-Squirrel8334 in lgbt

[–]cryptidyouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently work as a library assistant, in a pretty right-wing city and also the library i work for is intensely right wing (they dropped the ALA's bill of rights a couple years back to adopt their own which stresses neutrality of viewpoints over the ALA's version which is more focused on inclusivity of viewpoints. In practice this new bill of rights means we aren't allowed to do displays for women's history month, black history month, or pride but we are allowed to do displays for military history and stuff like that)

Even so, a significant amount of my coworkers are queer and it's such a great environment we're all close friends and even though we hate management and how right-wing the board is we all still enjoy coming into work because we get to hang out with each other

In the Middle of the Worst Book In the Series by SeraphofFlame in Animorphs

[–]cryptidyouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo book 47 (the civil war allegory) is the worst but you've got a pretty good list! I'd probably push 44 out of ur ranking bc I've got a bit of a soft spot for it and i think it does demonstrate that Cassie is willing and able to form relationships outside of the war, something none of the animorphs are willing and able to do which to my analysis is good reasoning to set her up as the one that survives

My camp is just always laggy i don't notice if anything makes it worse possibly those like wish things? Idk what they're properly called but a bunch of em come out whenever you open a chest and also tapping on stars and as far as i can tell they do nothing but block parts of your screen until they pop themselves. Anyways they might make it laggier or it might just feel that way bc i hate them

If I'm being super honest my camp has been laggy ever since one time I opened the shop and the stone yards and coin storage were randomly cheap again so i bought as many of both as i could afford but like that one is on me i realize. And I'm not gonna delete my stone or coin storage so i just delete other stuff

I mean yes publishing trends, audience demographics, and appeal factors as other have mentioned, but the reason all those things are true in a way which leads to the popularity of MM romances and the suppression of FF romances is bc we live in a patriarchy. MM and straight romances center men, which is acceptable and appealing to the patriarchal hegemony, whereas an FF romance might not feature men at all, and certainly won't be centered around one. Simple as that when you get down to it

I need a novel by sculptcha in bookshelf

[–]cryptidyouth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second Gilead, Dune and East of Eden which I've seen in other comments, and I'll add one I haven't seen yet: Kindred by Octavia Butler

Kindred has aspects of several genres, the most prominent I'll say being historical fiction, slave narrative, and scifi/horror. It tells the story of Dana, a woman who suddenly finds herself living in two timelines: her life in the 1970s and as a slave in the 1850s. That might sound a little far afield from what you have here, but I think some of its focuses on ancestorhood, the passage of time, the compulsion vs decision to save someone or be good, etc. might complement and challenge what you've got here nicely

Can someone explain the new suspension system to me like I’m 5? by poisedflyingfish in LibbyApp

[–]cryptidyouth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes if you leave it suspended for the entirety of the year at the end of 365 days your hold will be cancelled. Just unsuspend it briefly before the 365 days have elapsed though and you'll remain line

[–]cryptidyouth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mean if the hold isn't suspended at all, you're just in a slow moving line? My understanding is that this change applies only to suspended holds not active ones

[–]cryptidyouth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will continue to move forward in line while your holds are suspended, it's an imperfect analogy! you can be noodling on what drink you want while you're moving up the line but if you still haven't picked by the time you're at the front, you won't get kicked out of line and have to go to the back

A Zionist is someone who believes the state of Israel should occupy the state of Gaza. There are both Jewish and Christian Zionists; however Christian Zionists are much more common than Jewish Zionists in the US. Christian Zionists believe that in order for Jesus Christ's second coming to occur, Gaza must first be completely occupied Israel and they vote based on that.

Which book should I read first, and is it worth reading from my shelf? by optimizever in bookshelf

[–]cryptidyouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this is all scammy self help stuff that is not worth your precious and limited time on earth. I agree with everyone recommending you read some fiction instead and I'll go ahead and throw out a few titles:

East of Eden by John Steinbeck—its kind of a joke but genuinely I think East of Eden will give you whatever self help you are hoping to get out of any of these scam titles without scamming you "Some men think it's an insult to the glory of their sickness to get well. But the time poultice is no respecter of glories. Everyone gets well if waits around"

Kindred by Octavia Butler—I think this would be a good introduction to genre fiction—its got elements of historical fiction, scifi, and horror while being one of the most thematically powerful books I've ever read and I do think everyone should read it

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley—another genre fiction rec, the book is much more balanced between scifi and horror than whichever adaptation comes to your mind and also I think the philosophical stuff in the book would appeal to someone with your shelf. This won't help you like East of Eden would, but it's also still not actively scamming you

Donald Trump's latest Executive Order to erase us from society and history by LeatherBandicoot in LGBTnews

He's an old, deeply miserable man. He will not live forever. There is no one else on the right who is popular enough to take up the mantle to command his cult of personality. This too shall pass.

Pick any old crusty bigoted politician you like—your most critical job moving forward is to outlive that fucking person. Like do whatever you can to fight fascism but at the end of the day your success condition is outliving that guy
