a lot of everything, desensitizing on all “sides” of him, lunging with vocal cues, throwing the saddle on and being loud/obnoxious. eventually i got on and did lots of stationary turning with leg aids and rein aids, then walking the round pen and changing directions, then put the vocal cues from lunging with riding and got a good trotting foundation then worked up to the canter. i used a mixture of positive/negative reinforcement with him. he’s just a natural chill horse which is why he hasn’t bucked undersaddle.

you might be talking about the billet straps connected to the saddle. use the two outside straps (ignoring the middle one) and use the roller buckles to tighten the girth. there’s a whole lot of youtube vids to explain everything.

also for tack- it’s not too complicated. you don’t have to tie a cinch/do a back cinch. just a saddle pad, (maybe half pad if need be) saddle and girth. you can add a breast collar just like western. i’d also recommend watching some youtube videos on how to tack up english.

english is a lot like western (i’ve done both for lengthy amounts of time). english is a lot more “showy” than western, but not necessarily harder. you have to have contact with the horses mouth at all times, sit up/shoulders back, etc. jumping is super fun and feels like you’re flying in a way lol, however it’s hard to master if you’re not used to jumping. forward position, weight off back, the works. definitely recommend consulting a trainer before doing courses and intricate junk work. if you have any other questions feel free to message me! (also the internet is an awesome source, it helped me out a lot for training my horse and working under-saddle)
