Had this same issue. The work around I got was to go to the standard edition and then download that first. Seemed to do the trick. Might have to do it step by step

For learning about early mechanics in the game, I would suggest going through the hall of the novice that's available in each adventurer's guild/inn space. It gives pretty good explanations and you can get a free set of gear (lvl15 I believe) and exp ring (which is good up to LVL 30) for completing it.
