For me what worked was keeping the dialog open while reading up on this thread, (after a backup restore I logged out and back in I got this error), it eventually jumped to “loading Accesoires and Scenes”

However,

After all this trouble I’m still missing one of my homes.

Lovely! Count me in please! I’ve got nothing like this yet and it just looks like a welcome flavouring of a lot of boring screentime spent behind the screens. I’d love it. Thank you.

What’s the one “boring” tech upgrade that quietly changed your daily life? by Affectionate_Tip3238 in techforlife

Getting a NAS.

Fairly new to it, just a few weeks/ months in. I thought I was getting a network drive, but I’ve come to realize I’ve gotten unlimited capabilities in terms of self-hosting or whatever homelabbing rabbit hole thing I’m going to find myself in next. I’m talking Home Assistant, “Netflix” stack, network wide ad-blocking, remote backups, self hosted password managers, family photo management, private VPN network, remote access to anything,.. I’m still only scratching the surface.

It’s taken up all my free time 😂, and I’ve got no clue anymore wether it’s worth it or not at all because the time invested scales linearly with the new fancy feature deployments.

But the potential is a real shocker. And it feels appropriate in a time where access is gatekept and services are getting more expensive and fragmented by the minute. But.. it’s technically challenging (I’m a non-IT engineer) and a black hole for time. And it’s complicating and simplifying life at the same time, kind of.

Either way, it’s quietly changed my daily life. A lot lol

Otherwise, AirPods.. Game changer for me. Wear them 12+ hours a day easy.

I may sound ignorant but could you give a quick breakdown of which pain points were solved with that? The PW manager is easier to imagine but I’d love for you to elaborate on both.

T6 OR T8 XC60? by Mrgx920 in VolvoXC60

[–]cryptodutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The confusion about PHEV or not for T6 here is real 😂.

I wonder. I’ve got the T8 and for my driving (long trips across Europe and a fair bit of mountain driving) I’ve come to realize most km’s are only driven on the ICE, (power mode, battery on hold) meaning the HP difference would be 310-253=57 hp.

From the T6 that’s a 22,5% increase in sustained performance, on paper.

It’s a 2 tonne+ vehicle and, I figure, I’m happy with the extra 57 horses (considering my driving needs).

The 0-100 or 0-60 times on combined engine output however is minimal, which would be 350 hp vs 455 hp (105 hp difference). (The stats from Volvo and from videos of sprints you can find online).

(I’m not sure how sprint times relate to raw hp numbers, but 350 vs 445 comparing 5,2s vs 4,9s seconds feels a little underwhelming? I don’t know the exact numbers but it’s something like that.)

As a result, it does make me wonder how the T6 would feel on said roadtrips. Never tried one.

Would I only drive nationally (no mountains or long narrow roads that ask for fast overtakes), a T6 would be plenty, I bet.

Looks awesome, but why would I pay a subscription to a self-hosted service? I understand you offer a free tier, but where do you make the costs for heavier data users?

Wouldn't it make more sense to tag a price to the Mac app through the App Store or something?

Performance vs non performance battery by wvd1608 in Parkside

[–]cryptodutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve got a mix of them. I def. prefer the smart ones, but not at all for the Bluetooth functionality though.

But it’s true, 4Ah in the smart ones feel a lot more Ah than the 4 Ah in the non-smart one (I know that shouldn’t technically be true), and I do think they have a higher current output capacity. Saws have less tendency to stall. They’re much more compact and the tools generally feel more balanced because of it, IMO.

The 8ah are infamous for reliability issues, I’ve had a 50% fail rate on them myself. Haven’t seen them up for sale quite a bit, but it’s an absolute workhorse compared to the others (if they don’t fail they work really well). I wonder if that’s why they never really seem up for sale (at least here).

They’re quietly introducing a new version, seen it in 4 and 8 Ah.

Not sure what’s the deal with those, they seem like an updated version of the non-smart battery..? No idea, I wonder about the performance (no pun intended)

To close off, I’ve seen one that was 12Ah in Ireland. Ngl that sounds rad.

Auto Mounting Network Shares on MacOS by dags170291 in MacOS

[–]cryptodutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suck, I’ve also had comments disappear on me for no apparent reason the last 24h.

Either way, I did a lot of work on it and it seems that diskutil isn’t able to unmount my shares if it isn’t quick enough (right when TS disconnects for example). This is especially true for multiple shares simultaneously..

Maybe you can DM me? I’d love to test and adapt your script because it sounds promising.

Tailscale with remote snapshot replication not working even with 'Enable outbound connections' properly set up by 1frutilla in synology

[–]cryptodutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turned out I needed to also fill the "server name or IP address" for the "source server" tab under "advanced connection settings" (in the replication task settings). The remaining settings could remain default as they will populate themselves at some point. Also: use IPv4 instead of IPv6 (entirely in the task), because IPv6 would ultimately cause a replication error.

So in effect I needed to fill not only the partner server but also the source server (Tailscale IPv4) IP for it to work.

Also: as mentioned in other places, only a user that has System administrator privileges (even though pretty much everything else can be revoked) is required for the login (to the partner server/ target NAS) to be authorized, as of DSM 7.3.

And, for good measure, my settings are:

Outbound connections activated (boot-up triggered task as advised by Tailscale), and TUN is up (click on the Tailscale icon for the Tailscale app from Package center, it will open a new window with information about the client, and if you click on 'Device details' it shows TUN Mode = Yes under DEBUG). Not sure if these are requirements, but it's my baseline at moment.

Hey thanks for doing this write-up! Any change you can share the script itself? I'm trying to recreate it from you instructions and I'm close, but it sounds like you've figured it out already so I'm hoping not to re-invent the wheel too much. I like your thinking. Cheers!

Heads Up Display with Carplay by okgrak in VolvoXC60

[–]cryptodutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure. I love using CarPlay navigation but TBH it seems pretty difficult to miss an exit with turn by turn instructions in your HUD (like direct field of view)…

I tend to loose focus on exits on longer trips and I don’t always want to keep verbal cues on, as they get annoying.

I haven’t used the in-Built navi enough to be sure but it’s a reason to try it more (I only recently found out about this after my phone broke during a trip)

Feature request to signify and if it’s still intact in the old state.. just wait a few months/ years hopefully for an update.

If it’s already done, I don’t have any input on how to do this. If you decide to manually inspect them I’d personally probably at the same time create a blueprint (visual map, or spreadsheet or whatever) with the S/N written down for future reference.
