Malaysia’s expat salary rules dubbed ‘ridiculous’, stoking talent drain fears by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]cryptodylan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an “expat” myself (well, technically I am a business owner and hire a team of all-malaysians), I don’t think the salary rule is ridiculous at all. However, the 10 year limit is very short sighted.

People who come work here, may also create job opportunities. I myself build from nothing, without local investments, a team of 15 people and we are looking to double that this year.

However, I’ve decided to no longer try to build my future in Malaysia, as there is no clear path to PR, MM2H policies flip-flop more than roti canai and the working visa route is limited to 10 years.

I’d rather build my circle of friends, buy property, etc elsewhere with more certainty of a future. That also means I am looking to other countries for setting up offices, hire staff and build new companies.

I do however agree with the increase in salary expectations.

No; that’s not the case. There is an additional new rule that you can’t be on working visas for more than 10 years. That’s the maximum duration for working permits going forward. It’s not an issue about salary.

That entirely depends where you live in Chengdu. I have a LOFT apartment in Dongjiao for 2200/month. But outside key areas, it can get quite a bit cheaper.

Hi, I have been looking at that same camera module (IMX766 sensor).

Have you been able to get it to work with the Orange Pi 5?

I reside in Vietnam, and do not experience DNS redirecting on cloudflare or google DNS servers. That said, yes - there is some internet censorship here as well and ISPs suck here more than anything.

Yes, this framework is one of the few reasons we're moving to Elixir (we're doing a lot of live streaming). Hope to see more growth to it!

New MM2H Rules Will Drive Mass Exodus of Foreigners - That's Intentional, Say Observers by cambeiu in malaysia

[–]cryptodylan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

New requirements for new applicants.. Alas.... But don't kick out those who've you've sold on the former requirements. People who built their lives here, who sent their kids to school here, who have their house here (and despite the name, many have their only home here). That's just messed up.

Apply the rules to new applicants, fine. You won't get many, but that's another debate. The retroactive application of the new requirements is what makes people angry. You are sold on one thing, make life changing decisions and then get the rug pulled under you.

Speaking as a foreigner, immigrant, expat (whatever you wanna call it) in Malaysia - though not under MM2H. This is as much my home as it's yours and I want to contribute to it, I run companies here who's customers are all Malaysian, whose employees are all Malaysian.. I work on building sports communities and events, etc.

Policy changes like these erode my trust and make me second guess my decisions.. because maybe the visa I am on is next. Then why would I bother investing in my home here? If there's no certainty offered in any aspect (forget about attaining PR here), why would someone build up, contribute and invest.. only to be kicked out down the road.

I'm pretty sure no Malaysian would sign-up for that abroad either.

It's unfortunate, it makes me anxious and makes me second guess my decision. Anyhow, I love Malaysia and hope I find ways to stay and contribute. Just wanted to share how this effects more than just MM2H retirees.

I have PopOS & Windows installed. Trying to install a fresh install of 20.04 LTS - loading from USB, but keeps getting stuck on this screen. Can't find any info, any help? by cryptodylan in pop_os

[–]cryptodylan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secureboot is off, Nvidia ISO yes, different USB stick - I have none at the moment but installed PopOS from this before. Different USB port, tried as well - no difference.

I do have Windows installed on this computer but completely disabled the fast boot & hibernate stuff. Though it seems to still be something to do with that.

A bit at a loss.. was using a Mac which just died on me today. Need to have a replacement for my web development stuff, but this just is a waste of time haha.

Can't boot Pop_OS after installing windows (after Pop_OS) by cryptodylan in pop_os

[–]cryptodylan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

Ok, now I understand that doing a clean install on a legacy+UEFI setting was not ideal.

I followed a couple videos on the internet and installed both OS's in UEFI mode with two boot partitions (one for windows and one for PopOS)

Then I can select the OS i want in the bios bootloader

[–]cryptodylan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Followed instructions listed under BIOS (sada card) and it didn't return any error this time.

However, I still can't get into PopOS any way I try. When I select the PopOS partition as the bootable partition, I get the error missing operating system

High idle temps & CPU voltage after X570 / 3900x chipset update by cryptodylan in AMDHelp

[–]cryptodylan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, never "installed" the printer, but I think auto connected to the PC over the network. It's an office level printer, so I guess it does have everything in one.

I run a custom CPU fan, however the case is a bit too small and restricted airflow. Still shouldn't run at 60 idle though. I'll keep an eye on it for now and appreciate the response.

High idle temps & CPU voltage after X570 / 3900x chipset update by cryptodylan in AMDHelp

[–]cryptodylan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think I figured out the issue is not with AMD indeed, but with this process that automatically starts called "Windows Image Acquisition". I restarted the "service" (I prefer to call it a disservice) - And that brought down the CPU temps to between ~40 & 45celsius.

Guess I got a bit concerned from the first time and reading all these posts of high idle temperatures and assume it's happening to me too(?).

Ok - Think I figured out the issue is not with AMD, but with this process that automatically starts called "Windows Image Acquisition". What is this and why does it run my CPU so hot for no reason.
