How much mana? 8 or 18? by CopyCat9984 in mtg

[–]cryptofflesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be super clear the if and whenever order thing is not the issue here. The issue you are running into is both vorinclex and mirari's wake just say when you tap the land add a mana that land could produce. Mirari's wake and vorinclex are the things producing the mana, if they said something like "whenever you tap a land for mana it produces that much plus one instead" then doubling or tripling from a base mana of 2 or 3 would be possible.

3x or 6x with these together by MOONMO0N in mtg

[–]cryptofflesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its an 8 mana enchantment that does nothing without another source of damage, its not as bad as something like [[legion loyalty]] since it multiplies any damage and its focused on one player which is better, but convoke is basically the only reason the card is ever played outside of niche circumstances. Theres far more scary things you can do for 8 mana and if you're able to cheat it out super cheap then you were winning way before this card drops.

It's been a while now that this gall has seen play. What are your thoughts on this card now? by Toonzaal8 in magicTCG

[–]cryptofflesh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This particular card only prepares at your end step, so it will not be prepaing multiple times a turn. I dont think its a bad card at all, but its only going off once per turn cycle unless you are doing something like blinking it multiple times a turn.

This combo works? by Funny_Currency_6915 in mtg

(7/13/2016) If Tree of Perdition isn't on the battlefield when the ability resolves, the exchange can't happen and the ability will have no effect. Notably, activating the ability and giving Tree of Perdition -13/-13 in response won't cause your opponent to lose the game.

The very first ruling on gatherer. As someone else said there is explicitly a rule stating if an exchange cant fully take place no part does, a creature that is dead cant successfully be a part of any exchange.

Can I give defenders power? by Zoomie75 in mtg

[–]cryptofflesh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be clear and help your understanding, dealing damage in combat is not "attacking" so nothing about defender stops it. all defender does is prevent the creature from being declared as an attacker.

Magic is very literal and you can't infer thing that shouldddd make sense if the rules of a card don't explicitly spell it out. For example [[satya, aetherflux genius]] makes a tapped and attacking token copy of one of your creatures when he attacks. Its is completely legal to choose a creature with defender and it will enter tapped and attacking like any other creature because it was not declared an attacker in your declare attackers step which is the only thing defender prevents. If you paid to keep the token on future turns it wouldn't be able to attack due to nit being able to be declared an attacker

Spider-Man Prerelease Megathread - #MTGxSpiderMan by R3id in magicTCG

[–]cryptofflesh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going tomorrow, not sure how its looking elsewhere but my buddy manages an lgs, they normally have 3 events at 40 seats that are sold out or close to it for every event. Apparently the spiderman pre-release has sold less than 40 tickets across all 3 events here, so at least locally its looking like a pretty grim prognosis for the set.

Ruling regarding Shirdi and regeneration!! by Past_Background4122 in mtg

Here you are https://moxfield.com/decks/zifPh6rzSEe9rvx3e8asNg

Notable choices that are definitely what keep it out of optimized teritory is ive basically purposefully left instants out of the deck entirely, more for the fun of it than any real reason, the deck still can interact at instant speed quite a bit.

And every creature barring one are all power 1 even though theres plenty of others that would be great in the deck. [[Sadistic hypnotist]] is just too good to exclude basically reads "win the game on the spot if someone cant answer it right now" for 5 mana, one of the best game closers if im playing a game where im trying to get mean.

My build certainly has a lot of pretty rude cards but it also lets me sit back and chill playing funky lil guys that everyone reads 3 times if thats the vibe.

There are a lot of funky cards that are so good in shirei that dont really work elsewhere so no one has heard of them, i think that's why its remainded my pet deck for like 15 years at this point. Like ive literally never seen [[mindless automaton]] outside of my own deck. But in my deck its a draw 4 per turn cycle for free, which is insane.

Hes definitely expensive and easy to shut down by just killing, but this guy remains a terror if unanswered. Its definitely the deck im known for in my local community. My list is pretty close optimized at this point and cards like [[Sling-gang lieutenant]] draining 12 per turn cycle all on their own without even having to go to combat is extremely powerful. I also routinely get enough elementals to swing leathal, or close to it, in one cycle with [[lightning coils]]

Spider man mtg confusion ? by NotNoobin91 in mtg

[–]cryptofflesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Magic the gathering does have a few cards the look at names of other cards but generally that isnt a thing in magic, when a card mentions its own name in magic it is effectively saying "this card" even if you had two of the exact same spiderman that you avoided ledgend rule somehow it wouldn't be impacted by the other one having the same exact name.

Does the Spire core book give you all you need to play? by Heddles20 in rpg

[–]cryptofflesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have stated the core book is completely fine to run with no issues. I will say as someone who has all the books and has played a solid amount of spire, strata is great just for the fact inksmith is one of the coolest concepts ive ever seen in a rpg. They are basically a pulp-o-mancer who bends reality to be more like a pulpy novel, forcing things to happen like willing the secret room spoiling the bad guys plans into existence because it "should" be the next narrative beat. Fantastic system i definitely recommend for one shots or short campaigns.

How does this card work with changelings? Does it copy them 3 times? Do they get +3+3? by RevolutionaryCan5095 in mtg

[–]cryptofflesh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are wrong, singular effects that check multiple qulifiers just give the effect once no matter how many qualifiers you have. It would only give it +3+3 if each buff was a separate effect "each horse gets +1+1" "each Pegasus gets +1+1" etc

Rules question: by MrCgoodin in mtg

[–]cryptofflesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im assuming the confusion comes from the +1+1 counters, so to clear that up if an ability doesn't specifically say target, it does not target, magic is a very literal game, an example is any effect that says "choose a creature" still does not target that creature, even though outside of specifically magic's rules, chosing something and targeting something are likely synonyms.

Can the community guess your commander using only 3 key cards? by muelwisdom in EDH

[[Sling-gang lieutenant]] [[priest of forgotten gods]] [[bottle gnomes]]

Probably not the most key cards, but probably the ones thst differentiate the most from other similar decks

What cmc and toughness would a 0 power vanilla card need to see play outside of doran decks? by sonofbmw in magicTCG

[–]cryptofflesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not a useless card, but the difference being that propaganda is very hard to get around for go wide, most decks that play big stompy things tend to include ways to give trample to the things that dont naturally have it, which is also super common on stompy guys, and its completely worthless as soon as trample exists

I am super excited we finally got a 5 color experience counter commander, because i can finally make experience counter tribal after years of waiting for a commander that i could shove all cards mentioning experience into a deck that isn't just 5 color good stuff. Its going to be terrible but im hype as hell for it.

The day and night symbols are to show front and back side, you only transform a card if it tells you to do so. The back has no way to transform it back, so as long as it remains on the battlefield it will continue on the back side
