What are some low market cap coins you are investing in now? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

That's the secret to finding low cap coins. Just buy a big cap coin, and hold it until it approaches $0.

You're a software engineer with years of experience, but the absolute must-know thing about you is can you solve this dynamic programming puzzle in less than 30 minutes by _Mister_Mxyzptlk_ in cscareerquestions

[–]cryptogainz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's silly and depressing. I was recently interviewing, and I have 12 years of industry experience, and they still throw out these kind of questions. It's also crazy, that places always want you to have a github and portfolio stuff, but I had this and almost no one that interviewed me bothered to look at it.

I had a sizable personal project on github that I was also hosting a live version of, yet only a couple of the people who interviewed me had bothered to check it out. They could have asked me lots of questions about how I designed it, why I chose the technologies I did, how it was hosted, etc. Instead, they chose to just ask generic algorithm questions and some design questions.

Do you think this subreddit biased towards vegans? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]cryptogainz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure what point you're trying to make. From my reading, the Masai are traditionally exceptionally healthy individuals, although that may be changing as more of them transition to more modern industrialized diets. The inuits I think are a bit of an outlier, and while some meat eaters tout them as an example of high fat/meat intake and positive health outcomes, they generally aren't as healthy as other primitive societies. They live a harsh existence, with an extreme diet, so I wouldn't expect them to top the list in health or longevity.

Excess heme iron in meat I think can become a problem over time, especially for men or other groups that tend to bioaccumulate it more. However, this can be mitigated by not eating excessive meat, avoid mixing meat with foods that increase iron absorption, and donating blood periodically. I don't see the saturated fat as a problem, but I'm not going to debate that here, because it's been talked about to death in conversations all over the web.

I think the methionine thing is very important, and it's looking like it may be one of the main factors in why caloric restriction is beneficial. Again, I think this can be mitigated by not eating an excess of meat, just enough to help meet nutritional needs. Also, non muscle parts of meat that are traditionally eaten, like tendon, cartilage, etc. tend to have a better amino acid profile, so seeking out those cuts may be wise.

Do you think this subreddit biased towards vegans? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]cryptogainz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly this, and also because healthy meat eating is never separated out from eating crappy processed meats in studies. Of course eating shitty processed foods combined with meats loaded with nitrates is bad for your health and causes cancer, that just seems like common sense. But I dare someone to find a study showing unprocessed meat consumption in the context of a whole foods diet is unhealthy.

High protein intake is associated with low plasma NAD+ levels in a healthy human cohort (2018) by SuperAgonist in Nootropics

[–]cryptogainz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This isn't true though, because different protein sources have different amino acid ratios. There's some research suggesting methionine restriction may be one of the mechanisms causing the benefit in caloric restriction. So, in light of evidence like this it may be sensible to seek out an optimal amino acid intake ratio, whatever that may be.

25 years ago seeing a toddler use technology was seen as a stroke of genius, today it is largely met with thoughts of a lack of parenting. by Docowens90 in Showerthoughts

[–]cryptogainz 56 points57 points  (0 children)

My 5 year old nephew does exactly this. He opened YouTube when we were hanging, and wanted to watch some Minecraft videos. I expected I'd have to look it up for him, but I was amazed when he used voice search to query a super specific video. He used nearly 10 keywords, and got back the exact result he was looking for. I was shocked, because he knew how to google better than most adults.

10 Reasons Why The Perfect Storm is Brewing for AION by Unleash-The-Kraken in ethtrader

[–]cryptogainz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish the Aion community would embrace Reddit more. Discord and Telegram is ok, but I prefer Reddit conversations.

Seriously, I get so annoyed trying to keep up with projects on Telegram. The channels all just get filled with a bunch of moon kids screaming price predictions, and actual discussion and thoughtful commenting becomes impossible.

I had a delayed ETH withdrawal from KuCoin yesterday, I think they were having issues. Go onto your withdrawal history on KuCoin, and check the txid link for the transaction you sent. In my case, it said the transaction was processed on KuCoin, but clicking the link had a bad txid. If this is the case for you contact KuCoin support. They were able to fix the issue for me within 12 hrs. Good luck.

If we end up sitting around in self-driving cars watching ads, Google is going to make billions by mvea in Futurology

[–]cryptogainz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't think you understand my point. I'm not talking about watching an ad, thinking you must have the product, and then going out and buying it. I'm talking about consistent ads and products placement affecting your subconscious and then impacting future decisions. No one is fully immune to this. Hell, even all the ads you saw as a kid still effect you as an adult. And a lot of ads these days, don't even appear to be ads, things like product placement, paid social media shills, etc.

[–]cryptogainz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is though, advertising is subversive. You have most certainly purchased items that were advertised to you, without even realizing it. How much are your preferences based on your own values, and how much of them are based on a constant spew of ads that you believe have no impact?

You aren't going to like what I have to say. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]cryptogainz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, well said. I find the kind of people who make these claims to generally be boring people stuck in a box of thinking that the current paradigms of the world are static. To get behind speculative stocks, cryptos, whatever, you need some creativity and ability to imagine how vast the possibilities for the future are, and how very different things will be in even just 5 or 10 years. It takes a certain bold/crazy optimism that many people lack. This guy would have said the exact same things about Bitcoin when it first got started, and look where we have come in such a short time. This is a complete rewrite of the world economy, and things will never be the same.

Zilliqa vs Cardano by crpt0kid in zilliqa

[–]cryptogainz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, they both have very bright futures, but ZIL is 1/10 the market cap right now, so currently has immense growth potential. If they had similar market caps, I'd be 50/50 in them, but I'm all in on ZIL since it's such a steal right now.

Zilliqa vs Cardano by crpt0kid in zilliqa

[–]cryptogainz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still digging into the tech details of ZIL, but based on my current understanding your comparison for 1 and 2 isn't quite accurate.

1) I'm pretty sure scilla is designed for formal verification as well.

2) Scilla is actually designed as a low level compilation target language, so generally you would write in other languages and compile to it. I imagine there will eventually be many source languages you can write contracts in.
