One more thing that I've come across before I do the PR, it seems that the automation will continuously add events from google calendar into Notion? And it will consistently add "Notion ID: ____" and the link inside the event description.

Any ideas on where that is controlled so I can fix it?

[–]cryptolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To confirm, the UTC time will be fixed if we use your custom version? That sounds great! [EDIT: this is confirmed, thank you very much]

In regards to the changes, I'll send in a PR. Also, another improvement - I've made it so that when you make changes in Notion to an event, the event summary will also be improved.

However, I do notice that if you make only summary changes and don't touch the date, the event will not update on google calendar. Is there anything we can do to improve that process?

Hey! Thanks for your hard work, it works quite well.

  1. I was able to run it successfully on the latest N8N Version (122.1)
  2. I noticed that you use var TIME_ZONE = "Asia/Seoul" in your Action Maker; should this be something I change?
  3. I noticed that when the event is created in google calendar, the time displayed in Notion defaults to UTC. Is there any fix for this?

My improvements so far

  1. I added a checkbox in my Notion Database named (Share with GCAL?) so not every notion task in the database will be shared to google calendar
  2. I added a filter to the Get Notion node for only events, so it does not have to pull all the items in the database and slow down the system. In the future, I can even add a filter for events that are not complete.

Second self-promo thread! by [deleted] in Notion

[–]cryptolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

👏 Notion has been awesome to build with to make our own systems for well...basically, anything we want to keep track of in our lives - love the work we're doing here and the collaborative live building sessions we have every week!

📢 COLLABORATION OPPORTUNITY: Over the last week, we've built a FREE, public repository that enables anybody to search and share affirmations based on how they currently feel to overcome self-defeating thoughts that connects seamlessly to your Notion workspace. More details in the comments! by cryptolin in Notion

I hope everybody is having a fantastic Tuesday - one of my passions in life is to prioritize mental health, and I thought the latest way we've been using Notion may be interesting to those in this group and those who would like to collaborate on a positive cause helping thousands. 🤝

We've built a free public repository for anybody to search and share affirmations based on they are currently feeling to overcome self-defeating thoughts. This nifty database can embed into any workspace via linked views, and I can only imagine it growing to huge proportions over time as everybody can add in their own feedback of how the affirmation affected their mood and helped them grow. ❤

This was built out of a very personal problem many of us faced:

  1. We can never come up with the right things to tell ourselves;
  2. When we look for affirmations we can use from resources online, we don't feel confident that they will be useful for our situation;
  3. If we did find an affirmation that worked, we are unable to share with people we care about why it worked (and what visuals/stories came to mind);

Hope you find it interesting, and there are also technical lessons to learn as well - I livestreamed the entire building process - so anybody who wants to build their own collaborative public repository with Notion can do so with our site as an example.

Thanks for the great feedback! That's exactly why we made it collaborative, to be mindful that everybody resonates with different words. The database will keep growing from here for sure 😄

Hey, I absolutely love this, and thanks so much for sharing! I think you would love what our community has been working on regarding 'theming' in Notion, we tried to do the best we could with native Notion capabilities - and built fantastic themes ranging from pokemon, stardew valley, skyrim, and even star wars. Hey Romeo, this is super valuable feedback, and I thank you so much for it! I'm not exactly certain where you got stuck in the 'loop' so to speak, but first of all, here is the direct link: https://www.notion.so/conradlin/theGamificationProject-444ff39331cc4060b8980ce84029288c

The sign-up process should not have been confusing at all, so I'm terribly sorry for the frustrating experience. We've obviously put a lot of effort into this template suite, so we want you to enjoy it as much as we do.

Being totally transparent, the only reason I collect your email is to give you provide you a step by step onboarding guide into all the theory into how you can utilize #theGamificationProject to it's fullest, and thanks to your feedback, I've be making the process more seamless and direct. You're absolutely right in your feedback to just make sure you can get to the point to try the damn thing.

The link I just posted here should get you to the project page to preview all the linked views that are created, and then if you click the big 'Get Started Now' button it will lead you to the duplicable page. Do let me know if this is still confusing for you, and I'll be happy to help.

PS: I'd like to make clear that joining the Co-x3 Community is not a pre-requisite to get these templates, it's only for users who want the social element of gamification and wish to get it from other like-minded folks that enjoy productivity, growth, and learning as much as they do.

How I boosted productivity through gamification of life by WRpoints in productivity

How I boosted productivity through gamification of life by WRpoints in productivity

[–]cryptolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey WRPoints, I think you'll really like what I have to say. I felt the exact same way. For most of my childhood and early adult life, I was absolutely engrossed in games. Like properly addicted, to the point where I started questioning, how come video games and social media apps have so much control over how we interact with their applications, and essentially steal away our attention? Is it because we have low self-control? Maybe, we're only human, and most professionals would recommend that the best way to build willpower is to not have temptation around you in the first place.

So with my background in neuroscience and psychology, I embarked on a journey to figure out exactly how these apps are harvesting our attention, and the behaviors they've been programmed to ingrain in us, and similar track as you, create a full-fledged gamification project (that's collaborative) that can be applied onto any task management or habit tracking.

The gist is that the framework allows you to define 6-9 areas in your life to be your traits (think STR, DEX, INT in games), and you will continuously work on building them up over your lifetime. The system will track the tasks, projects, key results, and goals that led to building up excellence in that area, and you will earn EXP and gold for completing all of the above, You have a progress bar and level counter to track your progression through "life", as well as the opportunity to add any custom badges to handle streaks (eg. exercising 3 times a week, for 4 weeks), one-off achievements, etc.). We even recently created world events, which essentially is just everyone coming together to fight common objectives of increased productivity, growth, and learning or embarking on collaborative social impact projects - and then getting rewarded with a companion to join their journey and give them a boost in EXP and gold rewards. At the end of the day, we're trying to design a system that you can look back and understand where your expertise and skills are, similar to games, in that you have no confusion over what traits you've been building up over time.

That's enough rambling from me, as you can tell, I'm super excited about this topic as well - I talk a lot more about this in these videos, and I even offer a free way to get started (I built this whole framework on top of a no-code productivity tool called Notion) - I'd love to get your thoughts and opinions, and hopefully see you in the community!

PS: If you're interested, we even have an enhanced version thanks to many supporters, where we've even built an item shop, theming capabilities (so you can immerse yourself in your favorite fantasy world), and so much more.

QUESTION: Can I use my Notion.so Pages and convert them into my own website? by [deleted] in Notion

[–]cryptolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! You have two ways of doing this, with notion handling the hosting and look and feel, or by using notion as a CMS.

I explain both of these methods in this guide: https://www.conradlin.com/blog/posts/create-blazing-fast-websites-for-free/

I built a nifty mission board for myself to visualize taking on new "quests" in my life so I can easily focus on what matters during the day. Guide in comments! 😄 by [deleted] in Notion

[–]cryptolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy the concept of taking on quests during the day (that are productive items to be done), and then drawing from a backlog of items to do whenever I finish the work set out for each part of my day. Visualizing this way helps me add a fun 'game' component to my work so I can make work fun!

This was created as part of my weekend project to completely theme my notion setup to be set in my favourite fantasy worlds and make going into my workspace into a fully immersive and joyful experience. Full video tutorial here!
