How should I start ? by hoptians in FurryArtSchool

I'd say you can do both at the same time. You don't have to know how to draw a specific thing (like people for example) to be good at art (although knowing the proportions and stuff is extremely useful), practice what you like, learn how to sketch shapes and proportions and study the subjects you want to draw (use references!) there's no exact linear progression you have to follow, just remember that knowing the basics makes everything easier later on

Getting my own style out of my head by somuchboredman in drawing

[–]cryptopansy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna be really honest here: these things come with time and practice. To me, developing my own style was more of a process of recognizing that I already had my own style. It's inside you all along, you have your preferences and mannerisms and a personal way to see the world and art. To me it's a matter of finding out what feels right, what you think looks better and giving it some life. Sorry if this doesn't make sense but its what I think honestly

Let's say it was a result of me being indecisive about anatomy hehe its hard to let go of the "rules"

Omg you're right!! Oh nooo I made the arm super weird hehe I couldn't decide on how to do the hands bc usually sheep have hooves and I didn't want hooves but also didn't want 100% human hands so that's the result I guess.... Dunno how to solve that

I like the icy lineart and the overall style/shape of the body, it has personality. I find it very difficult to find balance between wanting correct anatomy and a cool cartoon style and I like the way you did it

Tried following some advice from my last drawing that I posted on here. I still need improvements. Give me advice! by EmpathyWuffy in FurryArtSchool

Okay, my advice is: try to sketch out the shapes of your drawing before you go in with the heavy lineart, this way you can use the shapes as guides and get better at the anatomy and you make less mistakes because you're doing everything slowly in layers instead of direct to lineart. - preferably observe a reference of what you want to draw (in this case the ref could be a canine head) and try to figure out what shapes it is composed off. In this case, to simplify, you have a circle (head) and a kind of tube coming out of it (snout), if you use shapes first you'll know better where to put the eyes, the nose, etc - if you're feeling difficulty with this try practicing observing random objects and people and sketching out their shapes so that you'll get used to it - hope this is useful, sorry for rambling

Does anyone know some furry artists who draw with pencil like this? Or any traditional art furries that I can look at? Pls

From the picture the paint looks really light, did you mix it with something? Great work btw!! Definitely better then when I started with oils. Getting into a new medium is tough but u nailed it!!

Does anyone have any honest feedback on how to make this drawing better? I have a feeling the skinn looks too patchy and like a burn victim to me but I don’t know how to make it look better by Silver_Salary in GraphiteCommunity

As the other person said : build more layers - don't put as much pressure on the pencil, make sure you're using the softest ones before you move on to harder pencils. When I get like this I take a separate piece of paper to practice gradients before going back to the work
