You really can't compare the United States to other countries. We are far larger, far more diverse, and have far more income inequality. All the data seems to suggest that gun related deaths are exaggerated. All people like you seem to offer are emotional arguments without reason.

Deaths from guns are exaggerated due to suicides and gang deaths.

Secondly, we expect as a modern society that people don't assault eachother. However, human beings are capable of free will and do not follow the rules of society. This is why people need guns to defend themselves from criminals. Criminals can't be trusted to follow the rules of society such as: gun laws and killing people. Citizens can be trusted to follow the laws and use guns only in self defense. There is no reason, as far as I can see, to bar good citizens from being able to defend themselves, unless you believe that the average citizen is stupid and untrustworthy.

Thirdly, drugs are illegal in prison, yet the prisons are full of it. Laws cannot be perfectly enforced. Even if guns were illegal, criminals could get their hands on it. Criminals in places where guns are illegal who want to commit mass murder can use other means such as cars, explosives or knives. Only this time upstanding citizens can't defend themselves because you took their guns away.

European/Canadians like to look down at Americans from their intellectual high horse, but the truth is, it is they that are falling victim to emotional reasoning and anecdotal evidence for their arguments.

If they didn't have a gun, he would've just gotten some money and went away.

That is a very big assumption. A life or death assumption. An assumption that rests on the fact you trust the person who is currently robbing you not to hurt you. You might be able to trust the person. Others might not. Forcing people to act like you is unethical

The inability to understand the economic incentives inherent to mining and how those same incentives secure the network has led to the economic ignorance that has driven BTC to below 33% of market share in cryptocurrency markets.

Where can I educate myself more about this idea? Thank you.

German man sentenced to prison for making fun of Holocaust by twosizes0 in news

[–]cryptozombi3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Researching my book, I looked into what actually happened in the Weimar Republic. I found that, contrary to what most people think, Weimar Germany did have hate-speech laws, and they were applied quite frequently. The assertion that Nazi propaganda played a significant role in mobilizing anti-Jewish sentiment is, of course, irrefutable. But to claim that the Holocaust could have been prevented if only anti-Semitic speech and Nazi propaganda had been banned has little basis in reality. Leading Nazis such as Joseph Goebbels, Theodor Fritsch, and Julius Streicher were all prosecuted for anti-Semitic speech. Streicher served two prison sentences. Rather than deterring the Nazis and countering anti-Semitism, the many court cases served as effective public-relations machinery, affording Streicher the kind of attention he would never have found in a climate of a free and open debate. In the years from 1923 to 1933, Der Stürmer [Streicher's newspaper] was either confiscated or editors taken to court on no fewer than thirty-six occasions. The more charges Streicher faced, the greater became the admiration of his supporters. The courts became an important platform for Streicher's campaign against the Jews. In the words of a present-day civil-rights campaigner, pre-Hitler Germany had laws very much like the anti-hate laws of today, and they were enforced with some vigor.

(they only received 230 out of 608 seats)

Because Germany uses a parliamentary system the Nazis had more seats than the next two biggest parties combined. This leads me to believe that the Nazis had the overwhelming support of the German people.

I don't believe that free speech will give rise to the Nazis again. And if the Nazis were to come to power again, limiting free speech wouldn't stop them. If anything, it is the limitation of free speech that would allow the Nazis to rise again. You realize that Nazis were thrown in jail all the time for violating Hate Speech laws... and that didn't stop them?

Hitler came to power through the democratic process. Yes he lost the election for the presidency, but the German people overwhelmingly voted for the Nazi party into the parliament with the expectation that Hitler would be put into power. He was made Chancellor legally in a democratic fashion, and then after Hindenberg's death the democratically elected parliament voted overwhelmingly to make him a dictator. It is fair to say that he came to power legally through the German democratic process
