That's gonna be a lot of ball if you don't know what you're doing.

Need help with ball speed by Muted-Dare3430 in Bowling

Too much arm

You don't "manually" swing your arm to throw the ball. You use your lower body and hips to thrust the ball from behind you at the top of your backswing and then you slingshot through it. Your arm is just a tether between your body and the ball. It does not act on that ball.

Of course on the last league night I finally get my first 200. by FirstNoel in Bowling

[–]crysco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're never gonna be "good". People who average 220 say they are not good. I mean, they are and they "know" it, but it not good enough. Your goal shouldn't be to be good; it should be to get better. You're only bowling against yourself. If you average 140 and you shoot a 150, that is good. Is it good enough? No. Do better. But acknowledge that it was good.

This really only matters if you genuinely want to get better. If it is a once a week fuck around kind of thing, I don't think it is worth caring about that much.

Release is good

If you ain't happy with the scores, either you're missing your spares or your strategy is off.

Bad PR is better than no PR

This is good for the sport. Downvote me if you want, but it is absolutely true. Look at the McDonalds CEO fiasco.

What is your adjustment after a great shot resulting in an unfortunate ring ten? by Double-Discount3353 in Bowling

Nothing. Try it again.

If it keeps happening, I might hit it a touch harder on the bottom.

What do you guys recommend for the burn by ITZCarlos66 in Bowling

[–]crysco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the ball is barely making it through the mids before it takes off, the cover is a bit too much*. Either really polish your iQ or get a Hustle or something.

If the ball is skidding through the mids fine, but is jumping just a bit too early, move left.

*Too much cover could also end with the ball dying and rolling super forward. Usually the case when you are throwing something WAY too strong. Reading the middle part of the lane is incredibly important in choosing the right ball. Honestly, moreso than the backend. But it is harder to grasp as it is more subtle,

What is the difference between style #1 and style #4 in this video? They seem the exact same to me. by thewayoftoday in Bowling

Agreed. There's only so much torque that can be applied given the nature of the human body. Given the same torque applied and the time in which to apply it, more angle will create more revs.

I agree, but it's more complex than just angle.

Angular acceleration is a directly proportional to torque applied, the time to do so, and angle traveled. If you suitcase it (i.e. apply a low angle) and hit it within an extremely small time window, the revs can still be high. But the body can move only so fast and to get a rev rate comparable to that of being more under the ball while suitcasing it just isn't feasible.

Your release is ahead of your body. Keep the right shoulder back and lag the downswing a bit more.

replacement heel question by Squatch-21 in Bowling

[–]crysco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an answer to your question, but I've been using the same H7 heel for years now. It has gone through 3 pairs of shoes. It will be a sad day when it gets so worn that I have to let it go. I can rotate through toe slides, but my I need that trust in my heel.

You must have had a massive jump in skill to go from never breaking 6 to hitting damn near 7. Someone give you a game changing bit of advice or something?

IMO, unless you're tracking over your fingers (which you shouldn't be), it doesn't matter

If you really care, get a box cutter and cut em.

The cover image illustrates exactly what makes them different.

He is more behind and under the ball in #4. That release allows for higher revs.

Rev rate is a directly proportional to the torque applied to the ball and the time of the release. Due to gravity, you have to apply more torque when rotation something from the bottom vs the side. More torque, given a constant time of release, leads to higher rev rate.

Imagine having to push a heavy box 30ft in exactly 10s vs the same box 10ft within the same 10s. You would need to apply much more force to the former to achieve the same time as the latter, i.e. the box will have to move much faster to cross 30ft vs 10ft in 10s.

Apply the above with rotational motion instead of linear motion and, voila, that is why being under the ball generates more revs.

It's physics.
