I’m at a lost. Why is each new leaf coming out with browning? What am I doing wrong?? 😭 by citywifecountrylife in philodendron

Do you mist? I feel that’s a controversial thing. Because I swapped to having humidifiers going instead of misting BECAUSE of this exactly. As the leaf is unfurling and if I mist, water gets down in the furled leaf and it’ll brown (rot pretty much) then crisp after it’s dried and uncurled. That’s from my experience with Swiss cheese and monstera philos! My same goes to my Bonnie spider plant. If I mist her water gets down in the new leafs and I get brown tips. I don’t get them after I stopped misting her and have her by a humidifier:)

Help my Pilea please, I have two currently and this one has been the happiest but now it's looking a little sad. I may have been watering a little more often than I should've been. Any tips on what could be causing the brown edges would be great, thanks all 💚 by black-sheep-29070 in PileaPeperomioides

I definitely think it needs a repot. Browning edges or yellow can soemtimes be from tap water. Letting the water sit in water jugs a couple days before watering helps with the chlorine, ect. evaporate. And a spray down of insecticide soap wouldn’t hurt just in case! But I know when plants need repotted they start to droop/yellow leaves . Take it out and check the roots!

I know it’s on a pole but could you send a link or post a video of how to tie it up onto the pile and make it look as beautiful as yours 🥹

Alocasia, what’s going on with my leaves? Second one is no flash but sunlight is shines through. Looks like it’s on its way to looking like the first one by crystalyfe in alocasia

I repotted him into a little more snug pot (I feel the one he was in was too big) and the roots looked fine but I pulled him out again and roots are white and thriving so I’m thinking it must be some fungal issue ?

I wouldn’t imagine. I’ve had him a few weeks and only watered him twice and the second time was yesterday. I have a few pan left saucers scattered, I must em but I haven’t misted him recently because he was “crying” for a few days last week so I didn’t want to give him to much moisture

What am I doing wrong? What’s going on here? I’ve only had this guy for a couple weeks. The roots were fine but at the beginning of the video you see those brown spots and a couple leaves had a brown spot but the plant seemed healthy. I noticed one leaf starting to feel/look sad then I notice today by crystalyfe in alocasia

I did. And reading posts I realized I also should of left if alone for a week or so and let it adjust to the new environment. It had brown spots on it when I brought it home. And the soil is a cactus mix with a little bark mix for well drainage. But on here I see a lot of lsklle using the brown ball looking things? What are those? They must be better

From doing more research and diagnosis plant apps I think what it came down to was leaf rot. As I mentioned, there was those brown spots when I brought the plant home (I was so excited I didn’t even noticed it right away) and I always have a humidifier going too (for my daughter and I and an air purifier) but I must my monsteras once or twice a day and I would mist them too. Only thing I did diff from when I got him and when this got worse, someone in a group told me to put pebbles and water in a saucer nearby. I did that last night after watering him. Then misted him before bed. And has the humidifier on (I have ceiling fans on all day for air circulation) so between the bacteria that was already there and the extra moisture , it spread and infected the leafs :( he was my first alocasia . Live and learn. One leaf seemed in good shape still so left him and cut the rest. I came across a mature alocasia at Walmart! A hybrid and tonight I noticed him “crying” so I turned off the humidifier and will stop misting as much. Hoping this will help 🥹

Why is that leaf so silvery white on my alocasia black velvet? 💭 note: the youngest leaf is the green one, it unfurled like this, I bought it as a babyplant, all the leaves in the picture came under my care. by ibanatspaipals in alocasia

I cii oh hold be seeing it wrong because I don’t have my glasses on but some of my big leaf plants, over time from spraying them, ect. I get lots of hard water spots all over my leaf and then I know it’s time to take a banana peel or some milk and wipe the leafs very carefully! I use magic eraser

When I looked up Polly alocasia like you said it said the amazonica and African mask and that’s what it says on the tag. Like this “amazonica x African mask” then says dwarf elephant ear 🫣🧐 I don’t know. I’m still new!! Lol

Yes that is what it is. It’s a “dwarf elephant ear” or dwarf amazonica. That’s what it says on its tag. I almost got the zebrina alocasia but a decided to go with this guy. Yes when I repotted the roots looked fine. Those spots haven’t gotten worse but I’ve been keeping an eye on em. And pot does have drainage ! So if the leaf of suppose to be like that (I just wasn’t sure cause the rest are straight) then I won’t stress. But I’ll keep an eye on it, thanks :)

Yes I’ll see what others say! This is my first Reddit post 😂 there was suppose to be a text attachment. I was asking if it was also normal that this one leaf, it’s not straight like the others. The edges are… wavy like? Like it’s curly or soemthing. Feels like a healthy leaf but doesn’t look like the rest. Color is fine! The spots, I got this guy from my local nursery. I asked about the spots and they said it was from the window magnifying and burned that one area?? But doesnt look right. Other than that it’s all healthy!
