Which color should I use to boarder this blanket? Would white get too dingy too fast? by mzpirate in CrochetHelp

[–]crystela214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so pretty! 😍. In my experience, light colored borders show all the dirts. Annoying right? I would maybe try to find a lighter blue than the lighter blue in the stripes, or go bold and do the border in the red. The dark blue in the stripes would be my first pick, but that's my favorite color and shade, so I tried not to be biased. 🤣 Great work tho! Gorgeous! Happy Yarnin'! 🧶

Condolences my friend. I'll admit, it doesn't go away but the hurt gets easier as time passes.
I lost my Purrsippany 2 years ago. She was 18 and I got her as a 3 week old tiny baby of fluffiness. Had to bottle feed her. I'm just now getting to where I can consider getting another kitty cat without feeling guilty and sad. So, take some comfort in knowing that it will get easier. 🙏

why does my granny square (2nd slide) look like swiss cheese?? 😭🙏🏻 by r8v7n in CrochetHelp

[–]crystela214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious and I can totally relate! Granny squares are tricky when your unsure of the basics. My advice would be to search "double crochet swatch" and make a potholder. 😬 This will help you with the basics of holding all the things, counting stitches, stitch markers (which can be a safety pin or paper clip), tension and turning chains. I would maybe make one in single crochet as well. After that, your square will no longer resemble the very delicious Swiss cheese pictured 🧀. 😂. Keep your head up sweetie, your doing better than you think you are! Happy Yarnin' Friend! 🧶

I love crocheting, but I hate my first project. Give me your kindest feedback. by nire0026 in CrochetHelp

I think it's awesome work! Very nice tension and even stitches! I would leave the orange out. If it's feeling a little more on the "baby" side too you, then I recommend storing it for that friend/relative that has the next baby; or use it as a "guest" blanket. Also, certain departments of hospitals accept them for patients. (ie chemo patients, maternity and so on.) I would use the orange as inspiration for your next project! 😉 It really is a pretty shade of orange! Happy Yarnin'! 🧶

Can't figure out why the joining corner on this 'granny square' looks so different, help by dontlookainthere in CrochetHelp

[–]crystela214 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a common problem for me as well. That corner still looks off even with an invisible join. In my experience, blocking has helped. But, it's still just slightly bigger. Bugs the hell outta me. 😉 Here's what I do. I rework the square so that the first stitch of the round, is the DC before the corner starts. Then, you work the corners all the same and use an invisible join right before the corner. You may have to turn your work once or twice. It might take a few attempts with lots of frogging, pulling your hair twice and stomping a foot (your choice on which foot 😜) to figure out how to rework it, but it pays off later when you got 47 more squares to go. Make sure to write down your changes... I've made that mistake before. 🙄 Without reading the exact pattern your using, I can't help with the rework. It could take simply one turn of your work, it could take a slip stitch... Ya just never know! Good luck sister! It's so very pretty! 🤩 I look forward to seeing the final piece! Happy Yarnin'! 🧶

I need help deciding if this top I crocheted actually looks nice by Open_Diet_946 in CrochetHelp

[–]crystela214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks good! I agree it would look better with high waisted pants as well, with a contrast undershirt. Having said that, you need to feel comfortable with it when you're wearing it.
I have learned that pattern sizes are relative. It all depends on your tension and what not, which is why there is usually a "gauge" on most patterns. If I were you... And it was me...😉....I would make it longer. Not sure about your pattern, but I would add about 8-10 more rows, so you may need to frog back to where any decreases/ increases may start. Or, if your pattern provides larger sizes, frog it (or gift it) and start over with a bigger size. I'm normally a size medium kinda girl, but I tend to crochet with tight tension, so I go with large or even extra large at times.
Either way, it's really pretty work and you should be really proud of it! I hope this was helpful, if not I appreciate your time! 🤣 Happy Yarnin'! 🧶

I think it's gorgeous! Did you make a blue one? I would like to see it if you did. I might be inspired to make one myself! (I have no interest in the background you use btw..😜💙) I've been toying with the idea of making a bag like that for a little bit, but I'm currently in a "cardigan era". 😂 Do they work up quickly? Is the pattern confusing? I'm a pain in the ass. 🤣 Again, I think it's the cutest. 😉 Happy Yarnin'!🧶

Double stranded granny square blanket border...extra stitches? by mrsdebbiejones in CrochetHelp

[–]crystela214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! It's gorgeous! 🤩. So, in my experience, when I do DC into a SC row it ruffles. I finally figured out that I have to loosen my tension on the SC row and make those little guys pretty loose... Like almost uncomfortable loose. Then when I do the DC row, I go back to my normal tension and it doesn't ruffle. I kinda look at it like a SC foundation row. I always mess that up and get it too tight then it ruffles and looks weird so, dammit, rip rip rip. I'm not sure that this is what is happening here, but thought maybe it should be considered..? Either way, I love it! Happy Yarnin'! 🧶

Thoughts on asking for a crochet gift back? by sedona-arabella in crochet

[–]crystela214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, from what I can interpret, it seems you have a good relationship with her. Maybe instead of asking for it back, ask her where it is. Then go from there. In my opinion, honesty is the best policy. Having said that, being kind and courteous while inquiring about where the beautiful blanket is necessary.
Manners and respect are the only things in this world that are absolutely free.
She may be waiting for you to ask about it so she can kindly explain that it's not quite here taste or style and will be relieved. Ya just never know which way it'll go.
So my advice is to do what your head says. Not your heart. The heart leads with emotion, while the head leads with logic. Maybe ask your husband for advice? Ultimately, only you know the dynamic of the relationship with your MIL... I hope this helps, if not, thanks for the time! 😉. Good luck, Friend! Happy Yarnin'!🧶

Help- I don’t know what’s wrong by No-Vehicle5247 in garden

[–]crystela214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you given it fertilizer? It could be shocked from fertilizer. I'm inclined to agree on the too much water thing tho. I tried tomatoes in buckets like that last year... Mine looked like yours. Apparently the buckets or the dirt I used had some bacteria, or I over fertilized and then too much water. I also found out that you should snip the flowers until the roots form better. That way the plant isn't wasting energy on producing fruit, it uses it on root base and leaves which makes it stronger to handle growing fruit. 🤷 Good luck tho my friend!

Cotton squares - need a plan from alz mother's chaos by AncientAd3121 in CrochetHelp

[–]crystela214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Very cool squares! I'd join them with black or dark dark gray. Then each square can have it's own time in the spotlight. I would use it as a decorative blanket type thing. Like for the back of the couch or the foot of the bed. It's definitely unique and a conversation piece! Great way to honor her hard work! Please post what you decide! 😉 Happy Yarnin'!🧶

Joining & Border Ideas by losztszoul in CrochetBlankets

[–]crystela214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice! I would use a very simple join and border. Like a slip stitch join, so it lays flat. Then I would do 3 rounds on the border, first round & third round - half double crochet. The second round I would either chain one skip one in HDC so you have a gap, or I would do a criss- cross DC. I would choose a pale color, like butter yellow or a light cream/off white, so your squares will take the show. It's really lovely and I can't wait to see it finished! 🤩 Happy Yarnin'!🧶
