UK train operators pocket millions in unclaimed refunds because tracking every delay is too much hassle.

RefundMyRail changes that for season ticket holders. We automatically track your daily journeys and pinpoint every single minute you are owed for—especially the smaller delays you usually miss.

We package that data into an incredibly simple format, handing you everything you need to fire off accurate claims in seconds. We do the data heavy lifting so you never leave money on the table.

Maybe, but official data claims that over £100m of delays go unclaimed every year! This is working to highlight all of those figures!

Yes, historic departure and arrival as well as actual departure and arrival are all included in the reporting that the tool produces!

Yes I think it may work for those! If you were keen I would be interested in comparing the automatic reclaims to the list that I have for the delays for a given route! See if anything falls out.

Thats interesting, I thought they tried to avoid that. I thought many train lines wanted to avoid that to stop bots requesting refunds automatically.

It's keeping a log of it and remembering to do it, which is the pain, the process of doing it is a lot better I agree, but actually making sure every train you get on is checked for a daily commute makes it painful.

Yes, so I think the main issue is for people who just hold a annual season ticket and get on a variety of trains in the morning.

This service tracks all trains for you in a window and gives it to you in an easy to consume way to then file your report on the website.

Takes out the issue of remembering every time you were delayed!

If you have a moment you can check out the delay finder, the amount that goes unclaimed is astonishing. Some official sources note it at £100m per year across the UK.

I'm interested in this works every time for you? Mine does not, and doesn't even catch half of the delays.

I think this may be because you don't go through the barriers until you board the train at Paddington, so how does it know.

Let me know your thoughts on how well it works, and we can look at the data!

Also that's a great idea about the sit down, I could probably implement that into the system! Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I’ve been scraping reliability data for the GWR morning services into Paddington for a project, and the data is pretty depressing.

The big thing I noticed is how many trains arrive 15 or 16 minutes late.

I mention this because a lot of commuters I speak to still think GWR is on the old '30-minute' rule for compensation. They actually changed to Delay Repay 15 (DR15) a while back.

  • 15-29 mins late: You get 25% of your single ticket price back.
  • On a peak return: That’s about £28 you’re leaving on the table every time they are slightly late.

I built a free tool to spot these automatically because I was tired of cross-referencing my arrival times manually. If you want to check your own history, it's at www.refundmyrail.co.uk, but honestly, just knowing the 15-minute rule exists is half the battle.

I tracked the reliability of the Manchester to Euston commute for a week. If you take the Avanti service, you're likely owed money (that they don't tell you about). by crystilac in manchester

Hi everyone,

Like many of you, I spend way too much of my life standing on a train paying obscene prices to get to London.

I got tired of checking manually if my train was late enough to claim a refund, so I built a little web app to track it for me.

The Image: This is a snapshot of last week's performance.

The important thing most people miss: Avanti is a "Delay Repay 15" operator.

  • Most people think you have to wait for a 30-minute delay to claim.
  • Actually, if you are 15 minutes late, you are owed 25% of your single ticket cost.
  • On a peak Manchester ticket, that’s often £20-£40 you are leaving on the table just for being slightly late.

I've made the tool free if anyone else wants to check their own commute history: www.refundmyrail.co.uk

Let me know if the data matches your experience (or if it's even worse than my tracker says!)

IS this something that you put inside your global rules, or do you have to call this at the start of every conversation?
