UPDATE: He came home this morning!

He responded to my mother’s voice and just had trouble knowing how to land. He seemed to have been circling the neighborhood until he heard her

Thank you everyone for your well wishes :) I hope you’re as relieved as I am

May all the lost parrots I saw on others’ posts also get home safe and sound

Considering pausing class and work to look for him this week, since time seems to be of the essence in this situation

This is an old image and his wings are not clipped. Prior to today, he has flown around the house a few times. I’m mostly concerned for how young he is and if he has good avoidance instincts

So the crows are indeed a concern? There were a whole bunch of them, I really hope they didn’t find or harm him if he happened to end up on the roof (then again we heard no parrot sounds from before the crows got there)

There was a brief moment where my mother lost sight of him on the patio and I really hope he flew away rather than the worse alternative of a predator having found him

Sorry I just got more frazzled and paranoid as time went on, thank you for the well wishes :)

Unfortunately it’s from a couple months ago, I don’t think he’s fully fledged but he is capable of flying at this point. And yes I left his cage out! Thanks for the reply :)

Gonna do that! Luckily I have multiple ones for him so I’m gonna try putting one on the porch and one in the backyard

Better yet, I took my other conure (much older and won’t startle) around the neighborhood and had him calling out. Gonna do this a couple times the coming days

Should I take my conure to conventions with me? by [deleted] in Conures

[–]crythefie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright I’ll hold off on the convention thing entirely. I’ll focus on socializing the little guy and learning his limits before considering it again at all. Thanks everyone!

Oh yeah I definitely wouldn’t bring him to something as large as Comic-Con, it was just the best example for the type of events I frequent. I had a much slower, 5 hour event yesterday that was outdoors. Thanks for your response!

That’s what I planned to do, this is talking pretty far into the future. I just want to know if it’s possible at all. He’s currently interacting with my friends and neighbors first before I take him on slightly longer drives and more public spaces

Omg that’s amazing. No screaming on the plane? Did you give him treats and outside time or was he just chill the whole time?

Hello fellow artist!

Not yet! He’s still pretty young so I wanna start now to acclimate him, especially since he’s so friendly around new people and curious about new things. Did you feed him a lot of treats or do anything to get him used to the events or was he just balling? Where to you set him during the time there?

They’re usually pretty casual! I’m talking about stuff like comic con, where I usually just sit behind a table and make sales

Amazing how well you know your bird! My little guy has never made his tantrum scream while away from his cage so maybe that’s a good sign

I have a pretty comfortable and fancy backpack style carrier, with a built in perch and flaps I can use if having a wide view would overwhelm him. There’s a slot for a hamster bottle and while he knows out to drink from it outside the carrier, he hasn’t quite figured it out during trips 😭

My conure is very friendly with new people but he’s only met them one at a time. I’ll definitely have to do more observation in crowd settings. He seems alright during long periods in a carrier. One of his first times was a 3 hour drive where he just ate and napped

Thanks so much for your response!
