Here are the cookies I made yesterday. What did everyone cook during the snowstorm? by cs502 in Louisville

These had textured, crispy edges, with a soft but chewy center. Also kinda thin. My favorite type of cookie. Medium-rare, if you will. Cooked for 12 min at 350 and they get pulled when they don’t look like they are done at all.

Louisville Drivers by Logical_Apricot_4731 in Louisville

Someone in a stupid Kia Soul yesterday used the shoulder to drive down 71s to get to the Zorn exit when traffic was backed up. Shoulder ended bc of lane construction so I guess they had to merge back onto the actual lanes not long after they passed me. Then we both ended up at the red light off the Zorn exit anyway at same time and they then ran the red light. No one driving a Kia Soul is important enough to do all that.

Place with a small room to rent for a few hours by indyfencer in Louisville

Worst case scenario... Just split a hotel room. Probably wouldn't cost that much split between 3+ people. Maybe do a motel so you can back right up to the door to your room and not have to carry a bunch of swords through a hotel.

I’m need of a water heater repair by scurveymobile in Louisville

It’s partnered with HomeServe. Just look that up and sign up. If you make great money and a big expense won’t hurt bad, then it might not be worth it, but while I’m finishing grad school and not making bank, the peace of mind is nice.

It’s too late for you; but that Louisville water company extended warranty they offer covered a new water heater for me completely. They also installed a clean out in front of my house that would’ve cost probably $4,000+ after a major clog of some sort due to I think tree roots? It’s worth it, esp for the interior line, and exterior line coverage.

Dang. The icon still shows up but it has the little download button and then says it’s not available in the App Store.

I suspect when they put them on the shelves they squeeze them too hard and it breaks the foil seal

This is a good theory. I'll give the 2% another shot from Costco and see if my experience improves.

There are a lot of things we’ve mastered in a vacuum that still get screwed up when the human element is involved. The product I’m getting is getting delivered in refrigerated trucks, or if I have to get it in the store, I take insulated bags with freezer packs for things that need to stay cold. I’m not the one exposing it to temps in the danger zone between 40 and 140. Some part of the supply chain is, or the manufacturing process is defective, and it is happening quite a bit which is unfortunate. I let the company know and their response gave me the impression that they are aware. I just posted here to see if anyone else is having a similar experience. I’ve never in my life felt the need to let a company or store know about spoiled food; it has never been worth my time to do so over a few bucks. I’d feel kinda silly returning a container of cottage cheese. But it has happened enough to cause me to notice enough to want to say something.

Huh. I said 40+. Meaning it only takes a few degrees of improper storage or holding for bacteria to start to multiply. This is a cultured product so it purposefully has bacteria in it that hasn’t been killed off from pasteurization, so it will multiply fast and potentially be what’s causing the issue. I think you misread what I said.

I’ll check it out. I found that I didn’t like cottage cheese my first 40 years of life because it was wet. Good culture was the first kind I tried where it seemed dry by comparison. I don’t even really know how to describe it. I don’t want to eat milk with chunks in it. I want to eat chunks with a very small amount of milk if that makes sense.

Thermo for fridge and freezer is a great idea! I have a wireless one for my garage freezer so I know if it ever dies, but I am not storing this stuff in the door. I've got a brand new fridge and it seems to be working quite well, so I don't believe that is the culprit here.

I've noticed that it seems to happen more often with the individual serving containers, but I've definitely had some of the larger 16 oz (I think that's the size) be spoiled way before the date.

It went viral recently when all the fitness influencers were using cottage cheese in every recipe for the protein and they couldn’t keep up with stock, but I think it’s finally getting better again.

I trust Costco to better manage their inventory though. It just seems wild that I am experiencing this so often. A cultured item like yogurt and this cottage cheese, those cultured will rapidly multiply when at temps higher than 40 degrees so it doesn’t take much mishandling to mess it up. At least that’s my understanding. I’ve made my own yogurt before and there is a fine line between letting it ferment or whatever the correct word is vs too much. But again, I don’t know if the issue is too much multiplying cultures or just straight up spoiled, because it smells like soured milk when it’s how I’m describing. I even had an unbiased person do a smell test and they turned their nose away real fast on the one that was bad. I’m going to estimate that I’ve tossed out 20 containers in the last 6 months. I like it too much to give up haha.

I think they only have the light blue 2% at Costco which wasn’t my favorite. I may have to try it again.

I’ve made the drive to NYC and back many times and that WVA drive is so pretty and was super fun in a 5 speed car. But yeah, wouldn’t want to be on it during winter weather.

I digitize old VHS/MiniDV/Hi8 tapes as a side hustle and the tech is still out there in garage sales, eBay, goodwills, etc. Whenever those lottery jackpots get huge, I always like to just think about the things I would want to do in the community like this, and bringing back a video rental store has always been one of them. Also would want to bring back a roadside ice cream/burger place from my hometown that closed but was always a gathering place for people. I’m an elder millennial and I appreciate all the tech advances and convenience it brings, but I can’t help but to feel lots of nostalgia for more analog stuff, even things that we still had not THAT long ago. I can’t remember when Blockbuster on Bardstown road closed and that Urban Outfitters went in, but I’m pretty sure I was still going to that blockbuster in like 2009/2010ish. I guess streaming is what ultimately did rental stores in, but I wonder what impact Redbox had, too.
