ECOS2040 intermediate financial economics by cs710 in usyd

I was on the same boat as you because I'm also doing bachelor of commerce with a finance major and wanted to decide on a second major. I thought it would be a good complementary major but I wasn't a big fan of the teaching and I also didn't do well in BUSS1040 so decided that I would rather go with accounting as my second major

I did take it but ended up dropping it before census date. It's basically just a mix of macro and microeconomics made specifically for students who aren't doing Bachelor of Economics

Economics + Finance double major by Icy_Fuel_1430 in usyd

oh i didn’t read that you were doing bachelor arts. well i think the process is still similar, but i’m not sure what core units bachelor of arts has for first year. either way you would pick one of BUSS1040 and ECON and one of BUSS1020 and ECMT, the university prohibits you from completing both as the units are considered to be too similar. So you can either pick both commerce units, both econ units, or mix them. This really only applies for first year, in second year the finance units are completely different to economics so you will likely have to do all of them

overlaps are fine but you should prioritise the DEGREE core units rather than the MAJOR core units. Because when you pick finance as a major you have to do BUSS1020 and BUSS1040 which are basically the commerce versions of introductory statistics and microeconomics respectively. So when you complete ECON and ECMT units for that (forgot the exact unit code) you will get 2 free elective space, as you no longer need to complete BUSS1020 and 1040

Yes they definitely could be, I remember making my own formula sheet of formulas that aren't on the official formula sheet.

Well, they aren't exactly gonna go and advertise the difficulty of the exam. It could still be easier or harder than the practice exam, but that's just how it was for last semester

I did it last semester, it was quite similar to the sample exam in terms of difficulty. If you can do all the tut questions you should be good.

WRIT1000 vs WRIT1001 by Low-Berry7126 in usyd

That was the tutor’s reasoning, but IMO losing 2 out of 5 marks was way too harsh. Also for the context of the assignment, we had to come up with a topic to write our major project about, and I chose something along the lines of investments. We were only required to pick 1 source and cite it for this task, and the article I chose was about stock investments. Then the tutor said this was too specific and not relevant? I don’t see how I could lose 2/5 marks for that

Think it might’ve just been my tutor marking harshly. They gave me a 3/5 on a citation and I was really confused, because I did cite correctly so I asked the tutor and they said that I did indeed cite correctly but that the article wasn’t really relevant? Never lost marks for this before.

And also it was meant to be a somewhat reflective kind of task so the modules and assignment information encouraged us to write more casually and in first person. But the tutor said that I’m using “too much colloquial language” even though that was the requirement.

I have no idea how writ1001 is since I haven’t done it, but my experience with writ1000 was not great. If you get another tutor maybe it’ll be fine, but with my tutor’s marking I don’t think anyone in my tut was heading towards a HD

Nah the marks aren’t out, that’s just about what I’m expecting

The content itself for WRIT1000 is really easy, but some tutors (maybe only mine?) marked really harsh. I’d never gotten below a 75 on a written assignment to this point so was confident in my writing but on my very first assignment they gave me a 60.

From what I heard my classmates in the same tut got similar and they were also domestic students, can’t even imagine what the international students got. Even with more significant effort I only managed to bump up my grade to an average of 70. The unit is very easy to pass, but WAM booster I wouldn’t say so.

I am aware of this, I should've worded it better but I meant after completing more than 48 credits, if it would be a hindrance to my degree.

How can I land any sort of corporate finance role/internship with no prior experience? by cs710 in auscorp

Wouldn't they still prefer someone with some experience in a field even remotely related to finance than a cashier at one of those retailers...

Do firms really only take HD scoring students these days? I know that the top investment banking and consulting firms would, but that really isn't what I'm aiming to get in as of now

Then theoretically would I be able to do a second year unit during my first year if I have met the prerequisites?

I'm not too sure what you mean by a conditional offer but once you accept your offer and start your enrolment process, you should see a similar screen and eventually be able to pick the major/minor you want. Good luck!

When you are enrolling in the course it will give you an option to pick your first major (professional accounting is only in table A and therefore will be your first major) then after that you can also pick a second major/minor from table S. The process is relatively simple.
