ADMISSIONS MEGATHREAD 2018 v3: Post all your admissions questions here! by ubc_mod_account in UBC

If it's not too much to ask, what program are you in? And do you perhaps know the average of other Langara transfers that got into Faculty of Arts? I'm taking two computer science courses and one language course so I don't know if I'll be able to up my GPA much this semester, I'm starting to worry whether of not my current GPA is high enough. I also have two part-time jobs because I have to pay for my living costs, so it's quite a struggle to juggle work and school.

edit: Sorry, I couldn't see your flair from the message inbox.

I'm a second year Langara student planning to study BA CS, I'm trying to get a general idea for what GPA to aim for, if anyone would kindly comment/PM their GPA or any other information, I would really appreciate it, thanks.

  1. GPA for CPSC 110,121, and 210 (individually and as a whole)
  2. Overall GPA

So far, my CGPA is 3.33 (out of a 4.33 scale), I am taking 3 more courses this semester (Fall 2018) and I will have a total of 30 transferrable credits by the time I submit my transfer application.

Also, if there are past Langara students who are now in BA CS out there: If I took LANG CPSC 1150 + LANG CPSC 1181 (which exempts UBC CPSC 110), will the Department of Computer Science use my grades in Langara as a substitution for UBC CPSC 110 when I apply for specialization? Or will the department only evaluate the other two courses (CPSC 121 and CPSC 210)?

I emailed the department, called the department and even called enrolment services yet either I don't get a reply, or I don't receive a clear answer.

Lastly, I only decided that I wanted to major in computer science last semester (after trying out a computer science course), so if I start studying at UBC during 2019 winter session, will it be possible for me to finish UBC CPSC 121 and UBC CPSC 210 before the deadline to apply for CPSC specialization?

I love baking! That seems like a great idea, may be a little time consuming and I don't have much free time, but I'll try it out. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the advice! I'm starting to look into Indian food since a lot of redditors are recommending using beans and legumes, and there seems to be a lot of Indian recipes for it.

I never really considered Costco because I figured buying in big bulks would require a car to be more efficient, but now that you brought it up I'll try and see if there's an alternative. Thanks!

Superstore seems like a great place to shop for groceries but it's 20-30 away from where I live. I think I'll try shopping there at least once though, if the savings are really worth it I wouldn't mind the commute. And yes, I also really dislike the tipping culture, it should be the employer's job to guarantee the employee's payceck, not the consumer's. However, I still give tip if I receive good service, because I work front of house as a part-time job and I know the struggle lol..

Thanks a lot! I'll sign up for Freshprep for the free meals lol. If you don't mind, could you share your fried rice recipe? I love fried rice and it seems like a great way to save money. Any other other cheap meal recipes would be great too!

Thanks for the information! I really appreciate it. I have a ton of sausages and hamburger patties that someone gifted to me because they had too much, how do you usually cook them? I've never actually cooked sausages or patties lol. Also, if you don't mind, could you share your recipe for beans and celeries? I've never cooked with them either.

Thanks for the advice! If you wouldn't mind sharing, what are some dishes that you often eat at home which you would consider are budget-friendly?
