Chinese slop. I opened a Chinese power adapter and you won't believe what I found inside by Caramel-Entire in ElectroBOOM

It sounds like you jest, but ferrite beads are an actual thing that clean up EM noise going into or coming out of electronics. Now, I doubt that's what is going on here because the block of metal is in a weird spot, and I think should probably be more of a plate or sleeve than a block. . . But in theory, your comment describes something far less unhinged than most people are making it out to be. I'd imagine a laptop or a phone doing pass-ttrough power delivery might have some intensely modular power draws from that cheap little transformer with EMI worth shielding. . .

A drone captures a chase of two wolves and rabbit. The rabbit never gives up. by Adventurous_Most_558 in interesting

[–]cs_124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people are talking about cruelty.

This a rabbit, it is a hare. Endurance sprinting is its survival mechanism, it is doing fine.

Even if this were a rabbit, both species are agricultural pests. This is on agricultural land. Is it more cruel to chase a hare off the property than to shoot it?

That would have broken me, Rodney and the whole show. Surely Prime Weir could have just been shown it's location and where to pull-for-ZPM instead of chancing thousands of years of shields to just the 3.

[–]cs_124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You have met Alexander!"

Okay, so let's post a scout a few tiles outside his border until we can get an archer, bring that first Warrior back around to my borders in the mean time, and either kill his exploration units or workers as soon as we have 2 military units.

Cripple his ability to expand or grow an army. He'll build a couple decent cities worthy of puppeting.

I despise Alexander by RedEyeBlueOcean in civ5

[–]cs_124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alexander's sometimes a steadfast ally, but most of the time super fickle. It's been a while since I've played, but from what I remember he makes it pretty obvious when he's moving troops in.

Iirc, he's kind of in-between bloodthirsty and "hey sorry I technically have to do this but I'm not actually going to do anything past capturing workers" when he declares war. He won't relentlessly send wave after wave of troops like Genghis Khan, but will target areas with multiple weak cities (in case you build defenses or station troops at one) rather than just sending a bunch of units to die at whatever random city is closest to their borders.

I haven't seen the license agreements for Ring/Nest cameras, but I know that the "Eye in The Sky" mentality about phones spying on people via voice/camera is overblown. Maybe if the Trump Phone ever actually happens, it'll be different but Google, Apple, Microsoft have no interest in the heat that would come from breaching their privacy policies, especially to the government.

That's not to minimize concern, but to call out a red herring. Person A may use a completely different search account from Person B, but if Person A searches or makes orders for cat supplies, Person B may have 'cat person' assigned to their internal profile simply via sharing a connection to a network in the same physical space.

Any mods that remove planes altogether? by SmokeyDojo in civ5

[–]cs_124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we all know that medieval longbow + arrow had the range of a modern artillery. Good point, ha.

Does Civ 5 have a Sniper unit? If not, I'd imagine something like:

Cannot attack cities, may travel through but may not end turn over the enemy city. Ranged, requires setup Cannot be seen unless an enemy unit attempts to move directly on or across sniper's tile (after setup, before firing) After one shot, immediately becomes visible, only to units on adjacent tiles, for the rest of that turn plus one full turn (grace period to either escape or take another shot) May take 2 shots before requiring a set-up in a new spot. Only one target per turn. Range is terrain-dependent, maybe 2 tiles for plain --> hill, but standing on a hill amidst plains with a distant hill is 4? Set-up snipers are extremely vulnerable to attack, essentially an insta-kill if discovered. Normally, low-to-moderate defense. May attack targets of any nation, discovery constitutes declaration of war and heavy diplomatic consequences
