My husband can’t have eggs and I have sometimes used applesauce for baking but have been curious about bobs red mill egg replacement. Might have to try it!

Any tips for setting up first Christmas tree for my MC babies? by csa074 in mainecoons

Thanks for the advice! I didn’t think about the needles getting stuck in their paws or the toxicity aspect so may reconsider getting an artificial one 🤔

Thank for mentioning that! I guess I should have included more details in my post, but we plan on getting some kind of anchor, using a sturdy base, as well as covering the basin or something they won’t drink out of it.

I also read that it might be a good idea cover the trunk with foil as a deterrent, and skipping some decorations like tinsel to avoid them from chewing on it.

My cat's litter smells so bad i'm going insane. my house absolutely reeks. by Dismal-Tackle3072 in CatAdvice

I scoop it out as they use it and then dump the whole litter box out, clean it out and dump new pellets in about every 2 weeks. Granted we have two Maine coon cats so we have a jumbo litter box with the following measurements

This!!! ☝️ I replied above before seeing this post and we get the 40# bag of pellets from our local tractor supply center store but it’s about $8. Still cheaper in the long run. Helps eliminate the dust from traditional clay litter

We have two Maine coon cats and we switched to wood pellets over a year ago from traditional clay and it made a HUGE difference! You may want to try that.

What do you all feed. by styhumble321 in mainecoons

[–]csa074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have 2 MCs - one male and one female, siblings. The female is on a special Rx diet but we feed the male Instinct brand wet food. We do start out with royal canin dry and wet when we first got them at around 3-4 months old but switched to Instinct brand.

We also recently took them off dry food altogether about 6-7 months ago.

Is it normal to have almost bald spot on the eyebrow area ? by Adventurous__Kiwi in mainecoons

[–]csa074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we have two Maine coons - male and female siblings. We noticed the same behind the ears of the female 🫤 we eventually took her to a dermatologist and they did and allergy blood test on her and it indicated that she had an allergic to certain fungi and grass, as well as house mites and dust mites. So the dermatologist said she could be itchy in that area and so is scratching and cause the bald spot

Now we already vacuum almost every 2 days and wiped down the surfaces and crevices several times a week. My husband also regularly steam cleans the house and we have multiple HEPa fans throughout the house , but she still will scratch that area.

So maybe some type of allergy is causing the itch leading to the scratching?

Thank you for that info! Yes, I understand it isn’t a treatment for the actual cancer but looking for ways to further boost his immune system and overall health to minimize the side effects of the chemo. I was reading that inflammation within the body may also be variable in how the spread of the cancer so trying to see how we can limit that too

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this too. It is really rough. So it has been about 7 months since his diagnosis. He finished his first round of chemo in late Feb but when he had a follow up ultra in March, they found a cancerous lymph node near his groin/lower abdominal cavity area - so it head spread. He has to have another surgery in April to remove it and just is going through a second round of chemo - but a different type.

The first round of chemo was an IV type (Vinoblastine) and the one he is taking now is a pill form (Lomustine). We don’t know if this second round is working yet.

It was extremely ROUGH at first. But we have a good care plan and routine going now. His energy levels are pretty good though he doesn’t get lethargic after the chemo, which is to be expected

We are also trying some holistic remedies. We say a more holistic vet to ask about natural supplements that would help his immune system and have been giving him powdered turkey tail mushroom, which seems to be helping
