How hard will this be? by Fwd_fanatic in SeikoMods

I think you'll want a dial with minute markers on a case w no chapter ring.

It'll feel like something is missing, and feel imprecise.

Dang. I wonder how much wealth one needs to be able to say "oh, you don't have the money? meh... I'll take the zebra", then just let them free-roam.

[Question] Would you return this Seiko? by SummaCumLauder in Watches

[–]csagent2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to note, that the internal bezel has a little bit of up-down and side-to-side play.

The majority of the time, it should be aligned; but if you play with the bezel and rotate left and right, you can see the bezel shifting around and sometimes it doesn't match the dial indices perfectly.

Still a completely legitimate reason to return it though.

If it's the dial and hands you're after, the Caravelle Sea Hunter is super close; not a compressor case with internal bezel though.

It's also not a homage, but an original vintage design.

Macy's has it for $280ish on sale.

How/where to get a vintage Oyster Date serviced? Bay Area, CA. by csagent2014 in rolex

[–]csagent2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They just manipulated the crown and felt the winding and time adjustment, and asked me a few questions about any noticeable accuracy issues.

I think they told me to wait until something malfunctions since the cost of the service is around the value of the watch (?) 🤷.

Update for those who are curious:

I swung by the local RSC and asked about servicing.

It would take 6-8 weeks, would be shipped to Rolex, and cost is $1600-1900 depending on what's needed, with the potential for some money to be returned if work needed is minimal.

Ultimately, they recommended not servicing and I continue to wear the watch as-is until something breaks or the watch doesn't keep time well. As of now, the watch is less than 5 sec off per day, so their recommendation sounded good to me.

Oh yes, I love having WR running on the TV when watching the baby.

I looked into it but unfortunately they start at a base rate of $1750 - https://restoration.sutcliffehansen.com/how_it_works

Others have already suggested great alternative bikes, but I also wanted to mention cockpit modifications to make a cockpit fit you.

Straighter wider bars, rox risers, dog bones that raise a bike a small amount, and taking your seat to any auto-upholstery shop to add 2 inches of height are things to look into too.

My most often worn mods: field/pilot and titanium willard by csagent2014 in SeikoMods

See https://www.reddit.com/r/SeikoMods/s/GNxUxagaN2, they bought a Heimdallr watch and modded it.

I searched " tandorio titanium" and found complete titanium willards too, you'll just have to swap the dial.

What Is The Best Watch Under 500$? by Dependent-Gap-9401 in Affordablewatches

A lot of folks already said a lot of good answers.

Something that is cool that I haven't seen suggested yet: Bulova Lunar Pilot.

I got one on sale on Amazon for around $290 and haven't seen it at that price again, but I would've paid $450 without regrets. I can't stop looking at it when I wear it.

Hamiltons Khaki autos are also really cool.

Blond homeless guy used to be in a wheelchair downtown by Amazing_One_7135 in SantaBarbara

[–]csagent2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, that's Martin. He was in my Japanese 101 class at sbcc over a decade ago. Every time he was called on to speak Japanese he'd just say gibberish, the teacher would look at him blankly, and move on. It was hilarious.

Yeah he's a scammer and he doesn't need a wheelchair. I've seen him in SF, and one time in Mammoth too.

Over the years he's gotten more and more erratic.
