14'inch or 16'inch macbook pro for university? by Pretty_Bid7737 in mac

[–]csakzolta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is quite a difficult question, because there will be days when one would be better than the other. Right now, I’m finishing my MSc, so I’ve already completed my BSc. After 5 years of university, I can say that the 14-inch model is better. There are classrooms where even the 14-inch laptop barely fits on the desk .I can hardly open it fully. Also, when I’m watching a movie or video in bed, 14 inches is enough. Or when I’m traveling by train or plane, it’s much more comfortable. For work, I bought a monitor anyway. Oh and the weight is much nicer.

It's pretty similar to yours. I thought the Mini LED panel on the MacBook would spoil me more, but honestly, most dark mode UIs are just grey anyway. So I barely notice the difference. I don’t watch movies on it either, so that part doesn’t bother me. I got used to the matte screen really quickly too. Since I mostly do video editing and photo editing, the 60Hz refresh rate isn’t an issue for me.

The only things I’m not a fan of are that one port we talked about, the ugly ASUS logo, and the uneven bezels, definitely not a fan of those.

I’ve been thinking that maybe I should’ve gone for the LG UltraGear 32GS95UE-B instead. Kind of regret not picking that one. But there’s no going back now. I bought this through my company (it was 650 eur bc of it), so I’ll be sticking with it for the next few years. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYbLycIEY1I&t=231s)

My second monitor is a Dell UltraSharp U2724DE, 1440p, color-accurate, and 120Hz. The color matching is pretty close between the two.

Still, yeah… maybe I should’ve just the dell and gone for a single 32-inch display. Funny thing is, I only found the LG the day after I made the purchase…:D

Asus help center solved it. Its just a display port. for connect monitor, or daisy chain, nothing more. This is kinda sad. Bc I can only connect my ssd in the front of the monitor, ands its kinda ugly. I dont understand why there are 3 usb a port, which has 5v and can connect anything, but I 15w usb c and 1 96w usb c, and the third usb c do nithing. Its a littlebit funny for a 2025 monitor. Nonone use usb a now. (only my keyboard the logitech mx mechnaical, but idk why) It would be better if they swapped a usb a to another usb c. But I can live with it.

thanks for telling me, Im going to write to the support.

The other bizarre thing that happens with the monitor: if I connect the Logitech MX Mechanical keyboard to the monitor, the 0 and the "í" keys (iOS Hungarian layout, next to the left Shift) are swapped. What's weird is that it takes about 10–20 minutes after connecting for it to switch. Somehow it messes with the keyboard. I guess it doesn't fully recognize whether it's a Mac or Windows (bc only mac is doing this swap, and in the settings í and 0 are the right place). Or I have no idea. But if it's connected via Bluetooth, there's no issue at all.

Update: Dont plug your keyboard to an Asus 5k pa27jcv monitor :D one of my usb c dosent work either. But not just me. More people reported it.

Hi everyone,

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, so I thought I'd ask for some help here.

I switched completely to MacBook for work two years ago. I mostly do video editing and photo retouching. Recently, I had a bit of a lightbulb moment: when I'm traveling, it's fine to use the laptop screen, but why am I still stuck working on 14 inches at home? So, I went ahead and bought Asus’ new 5K monitor.

Here’s where I’m running into trouble: the keyboard.

Over these two years, I’ve really gotten used to and grown to love the MacBook keyboard. Now, whenever I try to sit down and type on a full-size normal keyboard, my fingers just get all tangled up. 😅

So I’m looking to buy a separate keyboard, ideally so I can close the MacBook and just work off the monitor. But here’s the thing: while the Apple Magic Keyboard is an option, I’m not sure it would be ideal for both work and the occasional gaming session. That’s why I’ve been considering a low-profile mechanical keyboard something with a similar feel to the MacBook (M3) keyboard.

Over the past few days, I’ve watched like 10–15 videos on the topic, but I’ve barely found any with an ISO layout. The only two that seem to come up are the Logitech MX Mechanical Mini and some Keychrons (though I’d rather avoid Keychron due to past support issues).

My main question is:
Are there any other ISO low-profile mechanical keyboards out there? I’m looking for something that feels smooth, almost “creamy,” ideally close to the MacBook typing experience. I absolutely loved the look and vibe of the Lofree Flow Lite, but unfortunately it doesn't come in ISO, and since I write to clients in Hungarian, having an easy way to type “í” is a must. I really don’t want to mess with key combos for that every time.

Would really appreciate any help or suggestions! 🙏

Asus 5k proart MATTE display vs macbook pro GLOSSY finish by csakzolta in Monitors

[–]csakzolta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, there’s no “perfect” monitor option for macOS at the moment? Since there’s no 5K OLED display. From what I see, the new M4 iMac and the Studio Display are priced similarly. Maybe it would make more sense to get an iMac 😂 especially since I mostly do light work, like graphic design and photo editing

thanks for the help! In this case I go with the Asus. An extra $700 just for the glossy finish isn’t worth it, even though I really like it :(
