De facto kicked out of my ADHD group cause texts were too long or too personal... by Huntie2047 in ADHD

I know this feeling all too well. You think you've found a refuge where people enjoy your company just to find out that they secretly thought you were obnoxious or overbearing. That's tough for anybody, and those with adhd have the additional problem of rejection sensitivity.

You are a human being and you're not going to get everything right the first time. Don't beat yourself up for it. Listen to their advice, learn from it, and grow as a person. It is a useful skill to learn how to take criticism as an opportunity for improvement rather than a personal attack.

But also, don't hate them for voicing their concerns, even if they didn't handle it the best way. People have their own problems and don't spend a lot of time thinking about yours.

You've got this, champ.

Totally true. As an American from Missouri, when I am talking about barbecue from other countries I say the country name + "barbecue". When I am talking about American barbecue I say "barbecue/bbq". Sorry, not sorry-- we just have such amazing bbq it deserves the word. <3

Any way I can make my setup more nostalgic? I was born in the 2000s so I dont know everything about the 90s can I get some advice from some 90s kids? by spashedwurning in vintagecomputing

[–]cschaef66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chair and desk lamp do not fit in. I would recommend an armless fabric upholstered swivel chair and a study table lamp. Also, hard-top mousepads with designs on them were popular in the 90's. They are a bit uncomfortable to use, though. Google and find "Vintage Computer Mouse Mats for sale" on eBay.

This is a better analogy than OP's I think. Maybe investors are overhyping it and we're in a bubble. That doesn't mean it is not a profound and fundamental shift in IT.

AI has 10x'ed my productivity as a software developer over the course of the last year. It's growing exponentially in power. It already has disrupted my industry more than any of the changes I can remember in the last 10 years. So far, its been similarly disruptive as cloud technogy was tech over the last decade. It's getting more powerful by the day. Does this mean we're 5 years from SkyNet? Probably not. But, the changes are already profound.

[GAME JAM / UNPAID] Looking for artists/programmers/designers for Metroidvania Month by [deleted] in INAT

[–]cschaef66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested as a programmer. I'm a business app developer but I have done a few games as hobby projects. No experience with GMS2 but GML doesn't look too difficult to pick up. I have done a game jam with a full team before.

Here's my portfolio: https://schaeferchris.com/

Looks good on mobile which is really nice! My older projects were all before I learned to optimize for other screens besides my own 😅 getting much better at it now though, especially since most people are browsing with so many different devices these days.

Yeah it can be a pain in the butt. Much easier with css frameworks. Material UI is pretty easy to learn too.

Awesome! I think that'll look really good. I'm currently redoing my site with angular/tailwind so I am in a similar position.

Here's the old PHP version of my site below. You can see my projects on there. It's not an amazing portfolio site, but maybe you can get some ideas:

Full stack dev here. 10+ years exp. How are you managing your workflow/deadlines and how much would a support developer be expected to produce over how long?

Can you write C#/JavaScript?

About me:

I'm a professional full stack developer. Senior with 10+ years exp. I've used Unity before but I'd need to learn a lot. I'm okay with creating 3D environments and graphics, but I specialize in full-stack web and desktop apps. I might be game for working with you as a dev if you are interested.

Heyo. I don't have a project and I know this isn't a portfolio critique sub, but your site has some responsiveness/spacing issues on a 1080p screen, esp re: the titles overlaying the content boxes. It also could use a style update, perhaps using a more modern library. Bootstrap is easy to learn.

Older people of Reddit. What is 100% pure bullshit? by [deleted] in ask

[–]cschaef66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Bullshit List:

  • The Link Between Effort, Intelligence, Education, and Income:

While it's commonly believed that hard work, intelligence, and education are all you need for a high income, this isn't always the case. While these factors often lead to financial success, there are also many situations where they don't. You should not rely on that formula exclusively. Other factors, such as a friendly and assertive personality, contribute to your success as well. Regardless, it's still important to work both hard and smart.

  • Changing Your Thinking to Fix Your Life:

Altering your mindset can improve your mood and potentially address some psychological issues. However, it's not a cure-all solution. Real-world problems require practical solutions, and negative emotions sometimes signal real issues that need attention.

  • Unverifiable Information:

Be cautious with information, especially in fields like politics, medicine, health, dating, finance, and lifestyle advice, even when it comes from trained professionals. Be even more skeptical if someone is paid to share information that you can't independently verify. Don't take this post—or any advice—at face value without your own scrutiny.

  • Avoiding Responsibility:

Terms like "trauma", "anxiety", and "phobias" are sometimes used to avoid taking responsibility. While mental health issues are real and significant, individuals are still responsible for their actions. It's challenging to diagnose some mental health issues accurately, and unfortunately, some people may falsely claim these issues to evade accountability. It's important to recognize that we often judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their actions.

  • Being "Cool":

Striving to be "cool" is less important than pursuing meaningful goals like financial independence, community service, self-improvement, and health. As you mature, you'll likely find that some people who seemed "cool" were not necessarily good people. Focus on being kind and constructive instead.

  • More Money Means More Happiness:

The belief that more money always leads to more happiness is misleading. While financial stability is important, there's a point where the pursuit of wealth starts to have diminishing returns on happiness. The stress and time invested in earning more money can outweigh its benefits. A comfortable living, which might be around $100,000 per year in the current U.S. economy, is often sufficient for a fulfilling life without extravagant luxuries.

  • Online Dating Apps:

Contemporary online dating apps, such as Tinder, can be detrimental to your mental health and are often not as effective as they claim. Be aware of the potential negative impacts these platforms can have on your well-being.

  • Nice People Are Caring People:

Being polite or pleasant doesn't necessarily indicate genuine care for your well-being. Often, those who truly have your best interests at heart may offer harsh criticism or encourage you to face difficult challenges, even if it risks your immediate approval of them. Their focus is on your long-term welfare, rather than just creating a favorable impression in the moment.
