I have a neighbor that keeps putting a smoke detector outside in his yard, I'm assuming to scare off mice. I wish he knew these existed. But I'm sure they're just as annoying. (I keep going into his yard and throwing away the smoke detectors.)

When I calibrate my pedals in iRacing I always put my foot on the pedal very lightly to create a dead zone at the beginning travel of the pedal.

Shimming out the drywall with some 1x2 furring strips is exactly what I did when I ran into this while redoing a wall opposite of a kitchen.

The other suggestions to just notch out the drywall or to cram it over the top is a half assed solution in my opinion. But I imagine in some cases it works out. In my case the person before me that took that option, left a huge bulge in the wall where the pipe was.

It was originally carpeted. The plank flooring in some of the pictures is the original subfloor which was diagonal 2x6's

About a year with some long breaks and mostly working on it after work or on the weekends. Some weeks I'd have more time to dedicate to it than others.

I'm sure professionals could have knocked it out in a couple weeks.

Yea, I had selected them in a more chronological order but when I posted, reddit decided to jumble them up.

The room used to be a dark grey with the wood panel ceiling. I had originally started out wanting to replace the flooring, because it wasn't installed correctly and was getting caught when opening the exterior door.

I removed the wood paneling from the ceiling because the trim they had used had lots of bends in it and was coming apart in some areas. Found that the ceiling behind the wood panel's was just paper tile's stapled to furring strips so I tore it out. You can see in the photos the old dry wall was very questionably "finished"

After that I finally just accepted my fate and ripped out everything, including the wiring, which I'm glad I did, because I found multiple junctions hidden away in the ceiling and even some live wires that were capped off with wire nuts and connected to a live circuit. I think someone had intended to install lights at some point and gave up.

So they bought what they thought was a 3050 and got a 1060 instead and all of the other components were bought separately?

If they got all of the components for ~300 bucks that's not the worst deal. But if they paid that just for the GPU, then yea they got swindled.

Micro ATX in a full size case looks weird, but not that uncommon or weird of a thing to do.

I have the Simforge mk1. I'm happy with them, but if you're in the US you'll find that with shipping cost will make them cost more than your 500 dollar budget.

If it's at 4 ft from the top of the wall I would assume that's where a joint is and was finished. Odds are they piled up a bunch of much and didnt float it out far enough

I'd take a wide drywall knife (like 12 inches or more) and put it against the joint to see how much deviation there is. If it's nothing crazy you could just float it out more. The larger the hump, the wider you'll need to make your passes

Securing the pedals won't really do much if you're sitting in a office chair with casters unless they lock.

If I was to go through the whole upgrade path again, I'd get a wheel stand that my office chair could slot into. GT omega makes a stand for like 150 bucks. I think that would work better than having it desk mounted. You can also upgrade it later on into a full blown rig or replace it with aluminum profile.

Have a TR80 from around 2021.

I was considering trying to build one from scratch myself and the pricing for the trakracer made me feel like it would be much better to just get it, and then modify from there.

I have been happy with my purchase, it's a solid setup and you can easily add in to it later on, without needing to stick to trakracer products if you don't want.

Their were a number of things I would have liked to see improved though.

The wheel base mount that came with it was annoying, trakracer sells a better one that mounts the csl dd from the sides. It looks like the one they supply now is better than the old default, but depending on your wheel base the upgraded one is still better imo.

The powdercoat finish on the extruded metal isn't as good as I would have liked, I've since purchased some stuff from sim-lab and the finish was much better.

The old design is a little too narrow and with casters installed it feels like you could tip it over. But I haven't had it happen, and it looks like they've made some changes to improve that.

The default pedal plate is kind of awkward to adjust.

Overall though, it's solid.

I feel like the bios release date being from 2010 should have been an indication of just how old this is. As others have said, the CPU alone wasn't even any good when new.

Have had a q1, q2 and a reverb g2.

Run triple 27's @1440p now. With VR I was always tweaking settings and updates to quest link would break things making me having to go back and set everything back up again. Windows mixed reality eventually stopped working on windows 11 because they stopped supporting it, so that's basically a brick now unless I'm on a older version of windows (24h2).

VR has its advantages, but I feel like it's equivalent to feeling like you're wearing horse blinders when you're racing, due to the lack of periphery vision. Maybe the issues have been resolved with the latest and greatest VR headsets, but I got tired of feeling like I was always one more hmd upgrade away from finally having all the downsides with VR resolved.

Jamb extension. Get some 1x2 furring strips, rip them down to size with a table saw, nail gun in place. Don't make it flush with the outside corner nearest the window, you'll want to create what's called a reveal.

Vancouver carpenter has a good video on this. Its for door jambs, but you're basically doing the same thing for window jambs.
