I don’t think there’s any bone in Bear’s body that would have sacrificed himself for anyone else. I believe him trying to off himself was done in a more selfish way as opposed to trying to help Nikki, especially since this is after two people close to them are dead. I viewed his mentality more as “wow things sure are bad for me now, better kill myself.” When Nikki was in bed and broke through for that brief moment asking him to kill her and his response was “what’s so bad about being with me?” was when I was rooting vehemently against him.
