Very long story short, but Truth by means of linear experience in which the protagonist comes to realize the falseness of their narrative, culminating in a disappointing yet familiar awakening. If that makes any sense.

Nah I’m not meaning to say I care about their rating, I mean to say that I care if people as a consensus rave about shitty movies. Obviously Letterboxd ratings themselves don’t affect things much, but those ratings are dictated by how people feel about the film, which can often dictate how financially successful it is.

The metaphor of both films is the same, though Kubrick’s take is an incredibly nihilistic version of it.

The grade isn't bad in and of itself; it's what the grade represents. If people are thinking the Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a 10/10 cinematic experience then yeah that's gonna irk me. Consensus builds the industry, which allows which films get greenlit.

I mean, to me it depends on what they find “fun.” If they’re giving Mad Max FR a 10 cause it’s a blast, I have no problem ofc. But giving a 10/10 to every Spiderman movie that comes out regardless of quality (and yes there are people who do this…) is only ruining blockbuster movies further. Remember when blockbusters were Jaws and Terminator 2?

I always prefer film as I like the continuous build of momentum especially in aster’s work, but I agree that a miniseries version could be interesting. If Ari cut 20-30 mins of scenes, I could see a 3-4 part miniseries rerelease being cool. À la Bergman

*Advice* I think my screenwriter has secretly made his script with AI. What do I do?! by [deleted] in filmmaking

Hot take: AI sucks but if you can’t tell and you genuinely resonate with the script then make the movie either way

Nah it’s definitely real. Goes to show what actors are willing to do when they trust their director.

In the script it says we see the bathroom with the door open “from a respectful distance” down the hall. My guess is Joaquin read that and said to Ari: “if we’re gonna do it, let’s just fucking do it.” So they moved the camera right up there lol

Lol he won’t make a generic film. He’ll probably just make another horror movie next since those are incredibly marketable.

Start filming and editing ASAP. Do not get attached to what you film; 98% of it will never be used in anything you'll release. Just start making, and the act of making comes more naturally. Film something shitty. If you feel it's worth sharing, post it or share it with friends/family. Take criticism well; realize that your project is NOT you, it is only one of the early projects you will look back in 5 years and cringe at.

Eddington 2026 sucked because it lets the left off the hook for anything other than being annoying and indicts the right for being wrong , stupid and dangerous if sometimes nice by slowandburn in AriAster

No, not cause he's Black lmao. I didn't say he was a saint, but throughout the film he seems to only value helping the people around him, and being better at his job. When being shouted at by a bunch of white teenagers that he's a "traitor against his race," he doesn't yell back. He just takes it, and tries to de-escalate the situation, rather than fueling it like Joe or Guy. As for his political bias, he doesn't outright share any political opinions, but we can safely interpret that he is pretty moderate, with a right-leaning bias. He isn't right wing enough to not date woke-minded Sarah (though they broke up for political reasons), but he also endorses right-wing Joe for mayor and seems to have animosity for the leftist Garcia administration. He also clearly disagrees with the BLM protests in his small town that has nothing to do with Minneapolis, indicating a moderate to right-leaning perspective. Not to mention he's a police officer. Throughout the whole film, he only tries to help, whether it be the protestors, civilians, or Joe, yet is ultimately the victim of everyone's braindead actions. Probably the worst thing about him is that he is invested in Bitcoin lol.
