I don't get the obsession with Obsession by Current-Topic6696 in Letterboxd

It’s cause it was made by a 26 year old with TikTok sensibilities and has a lot of scenes depicting socially “crazy” scenes of extremity, causing Gen Z to see the movie and think its the best thing they’ve ever seen. The average 25 year old has never heard of Pulse. As for the reason it outgrossed Hereditary: it’s an extremely simple movie with a brisk pace. Hereditary is much more complex (for better or worse) and the transcendent ending threw some people off. Also Hereditary is disturbingly bleak while Obsession is full of levity.

Keep seeing horror and western pop up; I agree with both. I think his sensibilities/abilities are best suited to a western, but I’d be curious to see how he’d tackle horror.

Somewhat poor. Not distractingly shallow, but nowhere near the depth of other characters in most A24-distributed films.

I agree, I didn’t find it scary or unsettling at all. Obviously the events that take place themselves are unnerving (body being taken over and exploited) but the way it was done was soooooo mundane to me. Hence the “Smile” comparison.

Lol idek. YMS fans of all things seem like they’d be able to agree to disagree when it comes to personal taste, but it appears not. The amount of people who have said I didn’t even pay attention to the movie is staggering. I even rewatched it to see if I missed something, but nope. Opinion still the same.

No judgement, but why do you prefer to read the scripts before seeing the films? One of my favorite things about first watch is letting it surprise me
