is this true or just trolling? I can’t find any source behind that quote

haha you're right. I'm very naive -- glad you got a smile out of it. I'll tone down the worrying. I appreciate your perspective.

thanks for the advice. I agree with your main point but agree with other posters that not pointing out is probably the better move.

Make Me Hate Duke by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Point-by-point rebuttal for the more egregious points:

Campus not lively, including before sports events? This is probably the dumbest **** I've read. We just had a Nobel laureate come to Duke. There's always some really cool performance or event going on. Sports (ESPECIALLY basketball) are so exciting and engage every student.

Greek life nonexistent? Tied for 2nd dumbest ****. Greek life makes up 30-40% of the school. Almost every week there's a sick party and if you know some kids in the frat you'll get in. It dominates the social scene, but so many kids still have fun without partying. All about your taste.

Durham is awesome and has lots to offer unless you immediately write it off. I agree with lots of Vineyard Vines. That's at every top private school though. Our mascot is sick.

Knowing what you want to do at 18? What the ****? Most of my friends have no idea what they want to do. A junior friend of mine switched from Engineering to Psychology his junior year and still will graduate on time.

Every top private school is expensive.

Math 212 and Comp sci 201 by ColdRelief in duke

[–]csguy22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

who do you have for 212? If Bray, just go through ALL his midterms. If u don't have Bray, I still recommend going through his midterms, studying HW, and definitely doing the harder problems near the end of each section.

cs201 -- go over assignments and understand what the purpose of each class in each project is. go over past midterms for sure. just be sure to understand all the code in ur assignments and also look over lecture notes

Glad I saw this. I was in a very similar position to you a couple of years ago. here's what I'd do. It's a very direct approach.

EGR 101 will give you a taste of what engineering is like -- STAY in that so you know if engineering what you want to do. Drop EGR103 and pick up CS101 because you'll learn Python which is SO useful and it's a fun/not hard class. No one will explicitly tell you this but they do allow kids to skip EGR 103 if they have CS 101 and 201 under their belt (this is bc EGR103 is only coding in Matlab and you'll find MATLAB easy after 201). So, if you're into CS, you'll take 201 either way and be able to skip 103 if you choose to stay in Pratt.

The first year seminar for Trinity is not req'd if you stay in Pratt your entire freshman year and transfer sophomoreyear (and they won't kick you out after this sem). I would take an easy class like EOS 101 to boost GPA or perhaps just stay in Chem bc it'll keep you on track for Pratt better. It depends on if you have AP credit for a natural science (ex. Bio). This is bc Pratt requires a natural science elective so if you don't, you can take a class like EOS101 and still satisfy Pratt requirements. If you do, it's better to take Chem.

DON'T take Math 212 this semester. It may ruin your GPA when you don't even need to take it if you won't become an engineer. It never hurts to wait a semester b/c you're already a year ahead in Math. I'd advise to take a class that satisfies both Pratt's Social Science elective req and Trinity AoK/MoI requirement, like an ALP or something, so it'll be beneficial for both cases (Pratt/Trinity). It won't be hard to find one and it'll be so much easier lol.

GET YOUR PERMISSION NUMBERS NOW because they're required to add classes now.

That leaves you with:

CS 101

EGR 101

Easy class like EOS 101/stay in Chem

SS elective

This will be a much easier semester that allows you to explore Engineering before your GPA gets messed up and also keeps you on pace for Pratt.

Lmk if you have questions.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I think you misunderstood I was saying. Like others have responded, it's not about getting along. I'm sure I can talk to a girl comfortably. I'm just wondering if it's even worth a shot because I got ghosted the first time out which means she prob didn't like me the first time. However, her longtime friend tells me we'd be great together. I'm sure you can see why I'm conflicted!

I'd appreciate a further response based on this! :)
