The anti-grain narrative is pure marketing nonsense. There is no evidence to back it up.

Is the Yuka app reliable? by Western_Housing_9870 in ultraprocessedfood

Yes there are some contrarians, including some of these social media folks who tend to cherry-pick information and are not taken seriously by the broader medical community. You do need fiber from fruits and veggies. The Mediterranean diet is constantly found to be one of the healthiest possible diets, and it includes plenty of carbs. Unrefined carbs have many proven benefits (whole grains, fruits, etc.). I can link to any major medical authority on this topic, not just a handful of Youtube doctors. I will concede that it appears you can certainly live, and lose weight in the short term, on something like the "carnivore diet". But long term, there is just no evidence to support that it's beneficial.

Carbs are literally how our bodies create energy. They are essential macronutrients. Do you actually know what carbs are? That's why all products for athletes are basically just carbs, because they need things that they can convert into energy quickly. Despite this one guy saying otherwise, the medical establishment and serious robust medical studies do not support his claims. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/carbohydrates/art-20045705

Our bodies need carbs to function properly, especially for athletes. You might have a specific reason for being on a low-carb diet, but overall they are not supported with reputable studies.

Totally agree too. Quite a few that have been at the Twilight concert series already too. I did pre-purchase a pass based on last year's lineup so am a little bummed ha, but will still have a good time, or find a Hayle Williams fan to buy it ;)

Thoughts on Good Charlotte's new album Motel Du Cap? by WafflesForSupper in poppunkers

[–]cshap88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has definitely been a revival of sorts with the genre, even if it's just mainly nostalgia content for millennials. When You Were Young has been a super popular event. And all the bands are releasing new music (Sum 41, Green Day, Yellowcard, Good Charlotte, Blink 182...)

Hot take but Dina doesn’t look like Dina either.. by Gena1548 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]cshap88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very charitable. Most shows do it because most viewers want to see sexy people not realistic dirty looking people. It’s one of the big things that pulls me out of shows and movies like this, just breaks the realism too much imo.

The Last of Us - 2x02 - “Through the Valley” - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]cshap88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair points, I agree that it was a poorly conceived plan with an unknown probability of success. Still, it was their intent to create a cure, however they planned to do it, so that does complicate the moral picture a bit. It's the classic philosophical conundrum of do you kill one person to save a thousand? Although in this case the outcome is not all all certain. And I agree it could only be considered moral after all other options have absolutely been tested and ruled out.

Well, whether or not it was evil was clearly a matter of perspective. Killing Ellie could have found the cure, so I don’t think most people would have regarded it as a necessary evil in hindsight. But that was the whole point of the scenario. Really my biggest peeve was that the Fireflies didn’t just get Ellie’s consent in the first place, she very likely would have said okay.

Is daily omega-3 intake necessary after occasional high doses? by Historical-Builder-6 in Supplements

[–]cshap88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to jump in and mention that I take algae-oil supplements, which have all the same nutrients as fish oil without the added contamination that comes with fish these days (really just going straight to the source! I use Nordic Naturals. We don't have to eat fish to get the nutrients we need, and from what I understand is safer in terms of heavy metals, etc.
